Went to see the White Stripes last night
Couldn't stop grinning
Thankfully today is a public holiday

I thought the Stripes were due to appear on Jools Holland 'Later' next week or the week after. I cannot now remember why/where I learned this! Anyone else heard same?

The hype is justified.
It wasn't just that they were wildly entertaining. They actually seemed to be trying really hard and enjoying what they were doing. They played a small hall here in Zurich without any advertising and sold it purely on word of mouth.
And any group that covers Jolene gets an extra vote from me.

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me, Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene

I saw them last month at a small venue in Manchester and do not think they are overrated one bit. They don’t miss a bass player either.
I think they really do enjoy what they do, and for now at least are relatively unaffected by fame. Don’t expect a polished, well rehearsed performance though, they appear not to have a set list and energy, spontaneity and rawness make them what they are i.e. Unique and brilliant,
John.
PS. NAIMGRAM I don’t know if I would call then a rock band as such.
