Wonders of the Solar System BBC2 and BBC HD

Anyone else caught this?

Presented by Prof Brian Cox who I recall has posted on here in the past. Programme 1 dealt with the Sun and was excellent. A programme that had something useful to say and where all the worldwide travel and special effects actually contributed to the narrative, rather than get in the way as so often happens.

Its on the iPlayer but you really need to see it in HD for full jaw dropping effect. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I doubt the RAF could even afford the fuel now.

They were/are an awesome sight. I unfortunately missed the Air show my mate went to when 9 Lightnings did a "Squadron Scramble". I bet that woke the neighbours?

So - life on Mars possibly?
This guy is great at explaining things - if only the Beeb can continue to make stuff like this.
Utterly brilliant.

Steve, if James & Rupe, the Daily Mail, slippery Dave Cameron and the kind of moron who blathers on about having to pay the licence fee "even though I never watch the BBC" all have their way, it might not.

With the very occasional exception, only the BBC seems to be making this kind of programme these days.

I keep trying to imagine just how good Sky could make some of this type of programme instead of paying stupidly huge amounts to 'football teams' (overpaid players?) but I guess that's for another thread.

I did thoroughly enjoy this series - and the high speed camera programmes on BBC1 - (although I think they would have been massively improved upon if narrated by someone other than 'hampster'- bring back James Burke please)

Although it does use many of the same people/crew as 'Band of Brothers' ten years ago, which was a HBO/BBC co-production.

Still good for Sky putting in the money this time.

I will have to wait for the DVD, but if it is half as food as 'Band of Brothers' it is worth waiting for.

First show of 2 episodes was pretty good, you almost had the feeling you were suffering along side these guys , chilling stuff, showing the slaughter.
