"Expert" for Hire!

Posted by: Mike Hanson on 07 August 2001

Rico was unhappy that I reported the CDS1's superiority over the CDX without actually hearing the CDS1. (i.e. My "knowledge" was hearsay.) In light of this, I thought I should come clean and let you know which equipment I have owned and auditioned, so that no one feels misled by any future postings.

Owned:

Auditioned:

Any auditioned items marked with an asterisk have been experienced at least 3 times (with different units, and/or the same units in different setups). This list is not complete, as there are many other items that I've owned and auditioned; however, I believe these are the most pertinent within the context of this forum. For the list of my current systems, please see my profile.

From this point onwards, any comments that I make regarding the above equipment should be viewed as "expert opinion". I hope that Rico's happy with my full disclosure.

I'm hotly anticipating P's monosyllabic yet insightful "Arse" retort.

With all that equipment owned/auditioned how do you actually find time to lead a normal life!?

I must disclose that I've never auditioned them. However, there are legions of individuals who worship them as a religious icon. Therefore, they might be good.

I have read nearly all of Mr Hanson's 1093 postings on the above equipment, does this make me an expert too?

Tony.

PS Arse.

Not according to Rico. However, I'm willing to award you with an honorary doctorate in Stereophonic Auditionology. It should go nicely with your FEP Masters degree.

P.S. I just noticed your "Arse" postscript. That kind of talk from the ubiquitous yet anonymous P is one thing, but I didn't expect it from the FEP Master. I might have to reconsider your honorary degree.

who gives all your threads five stars or do you pay someone?

Also I think we need a "Hanson" Icon to paste into our replies- any thoughts?

I try not to vote for myself (unless I'm feeling somewhat masturbatory). It must be my adoring fans.

There you go Mikey boy!

I'll say one thing for you you old audio-onanist you - you're certainly consistent!

When are you going to buy some decent speakers?

P.

Over to you Rico - ha!

Posted on: 07 August 2001 by Rico
Very nice of you to note for the nine-hundredth-odd time what your system is, Mike.

But yes, it does go some way toward providing a reference lexicon to consult when reading your conjecture-packed posts. Well done!

Now, can you just include this in your profile, for even easier reference?

Over to you, P. wink

Rico - let them eat Kans.

Oh how about that - synchronised posting!

  • weight loss - I've lost and gained weight many times. I guess I'm an expert at that too.
  • good taste - Lots of food tastes good, as does a variety of liquid refreshments
  • cool music - Some of my music library is cool, and some isn't. Enough of it's cool that I must be an expert on that too.
  • talking sense - I sense that you aren't amused. Would you like to talk about it?
  • posting something remotely interesting - I think Dev is jealous.

This response was brought to you by... The Expert!

Cool! I don't think I've every seen the word "you" used so many times in one sentence. And except for a few punctuation errors, it's grammatically correct too. The Expert is impressed!

As you can see, I have no fear of new equipment. I'll get better speakers when I need them, and find something that I think is actually an "upgrade". SBLs aren't (at least not in my Expert Opinion).

Plastiscene head Hanson goes on the attack with a below the belt crowd pleaser with the latest thread 'Expert for Hire'. Will the All Black come back and flatten the bad jacket wearing husky hustler from Oh Canada? I think so. Tune in for further instalments!

Ting Ting, seconds out.

I just checked Vuks profile and their appears to be something that resembles a.... well, have a look.

What the hell is that?

P.

PS Sorry for the stream of conciousness your lordliness I will endeavour to insert the correct pronunciation marks in the future.

Gentleman

This thread is becoming nonsensical. Please discontinue.

Mr Hanson has a good system which has been purchased after much analytical thought. There is no reason to abuse him.

I regard him as a role model of excellence other than, of course, his speakers.

Mick

Mike,

My grandmother used to to say that an "ex" is a has been and "(s)pert" is a drip under pressure.

I've just updated the system specs in my "profile" in case anyone's curious.

So you finally broke down and got yourself an XPS. Congratulations!

As far as turntables go, I'll get a better one if I find myself spinning lots of those black discs. If you're afraid that I won't appreciate vinyl because my CDS2 is better than the P3, then don't worry. My Creek tuner doesn't compare to the CDS2 either, but it still gets some play. My office system is a long way below my main system, but I still enjoy listening to it. BTW, I appreciate and desire good sound quality, but I also value convenience. Vinyl just doesn't make the grade in that respect.

For me, vinyl will sink or swim based upon the availability and desirability of the music contained therein.

That photo isn't of an XPS.

Yes, I know that. As P said, it's a vertical bacon sandwich. Being a fellow resident of Canada, we both know the importance of back bacon.

The XPS was in the system specs. So when did it arrive on your doorstep?

BTW, did you spot the change in my gear? (Just for your amusement, this is the first time I've mentioned it. How about that for self control? I'm not always an onanist.)

Vuk

Get ye to the Tate Modern......they seem to like that sort of stuff.......and before anyone comes back.......I admit that I am a traditionalist.

I would rather see the photo of the girl sitting in front of the print press than that wriggly thing.

Herr Obermeister

You are swift to point out my lack of understanding in the use of punctuation, so, may I ask? Is the use of the word, AND, followed by the word, AND, a peculiar Canadian colloquialism that the rest of the English speaking world knoweth nothing of?

Heheh

Learn fast you do, young P-walker.

Actually, it's called forgetting to proof. Or should I blame it on stream of consciousness? wink

Thanks for the compliment!
