Happy ending after a long and crueling day, the mailman dropped off 4 DCCs in mint condition for my collection.

This must be one of the best sounding CDs I have ever listened to.

Neil Young - Sugar Mountain-Live At Canterbury House 1968
As someone mentioned before, would have preferred a no DVD option, since I will probably not watch it.

I just put on the March To The Scaffold from Berlioz Fantastic Symphony in Klemperer's rather startlingly violent perfomance! Well recorded too, which only emphasises that high velocity is not the only route to maximum terror and impact. Rhythmic grip brings even greater power.
You can almost smell the stench of the charnel house ...
This recording has mightily impressed me again after a gap of more than fifteen years since I had it on Lps. The [sadly deleted] 1993 EMI CD is splendid, but I see that I must have struck lucky with the one I bought. I saw it advertised second hand for over 200 GBP! There must be some seriously enthusiastic people out there, so I was very lucky indeed at 28 GBP. At that rate it is still the most expensive CD I have ever bought.
EMI should release it again!
George
PS: I hasten to add that the performance of the whole symphhony is superbly played and characterised, and brings out the level of tension and release appropriate to each movement, but the March is designedly grisly, and so it comes out. One definitel senses the blood stains of the floor, the saw dust, the ugly crowd of ghoulish on lookers ...
Staggering, and Witches Sabbaoth simply carries on. Revolutionary music presented unappologetically as fully wild!

One of my 2 MOFIs:-

Posted on: 04 December 2008 by naim_nymph

~<>~
1. Take the 'A' Train
2. Bemoanable Lady
3. Do Nothing Till You Hear from Me
4. Mingus Fingus No. 2
5. Eclipse
6. Prayer for Passive Resistance
7. Weird Nightmare
8. Half-Mast Inhibition
9. Orange Was the Color of Her Dress
~<>~
Recorded ~ New York, May 1960, (except for track 9 ~ Milan, Italy, Oct 1970)
Some sleazy 60’s style (or earlier) Mingus with nice Laorraine Cousins singing on track 5 & 7, and not a duff track on the disc!
Half Mast Inhibition; seamlessly crosses over a classical boarders with shades of Prokofiev and Copland (to my ears anyway) wonderfully weird, but presented as 8 minutes of fasinating music.
This cd disc deserves better a engineering quality! : )

... and very soon we can add to it the Audio Fidelity gold disc, mastered by Steve Hoffman (1966 mono mix). The whole new series should be very exciting.
