Take That - Beautiful World. And on Christmas day it will be their new album. Big Grin

By the way, I've said for a long time that Gary Barlow is actually a very good songwriter. Not my bag, but hey-ho...................

The tracks that did not make it to Vida La Vida. I reckon this EP is better than the album.

Denis, thanks for that. I always believed that David Sylvian was more than just the pretty boy of pop. In my more influenced years I loved Japan, but listening to his solo stuff makes me realise how good he is.

Nice to see Sylvian 'Brilliant Trees' being played, that was the album that opened me up to the trumpet, and you can see where that lead.

A lot of his music is worth hearing, my highlights would be, Japan 'Quite Life' and 'Tin Drum', solo 'Brilliant Trees', 'Secret of the Beehive', 'Gone to Earth'(with Robert Fripp and Bill Nelson), and the two Sylvian Fripp albums. 'Alchemy: An Index of Possibilities' is also worth giving a try, more accessible than the very abstract ambient work he did with Holgar Czukay (ex Can).

If you can track down a copy, 'Weatherbox', the first four solo albums, with the complete second disc from 'Gone to Earth' and wonderful design by Russell Mills, is well worth getting.

'Everything and Nothing' (his best of) has some good moments, but can be a bit patchy, and the track order seems a bit strange if you know the original albums well.

I have found his recent solo, or Nine Horses material a bit disappointing, as were the last couple of tours.

Still he really did have a golden period from the early 80's through to the collaboration with Fripp ten years later.

I don't revisit my 80s listening very often, but this remains a fine album.

Nigel - that's great news and I really look forward to meeting up. Are you doing the Julia Hulsmann show that night as well?

This is not a new Stina album being released in 2001. I have owned it for a few years and never played it. I am glad I gave it a spin as it is really excellent. I do not think she will ever better the album And She Closed Her Eyes, but this is certainly worth trying out.

Cheers

OK, thanks - I lost track of Stina after the first two albums (I really like "And She Closed Her Eyes" too).

I haven't bought a ticket for Julia Hulsmann Trio, as my friend wasn't interested (too "jazz"), so I would have to make my way back to his house in E17 late at night. I got mugged at knifepoint near there a few years ago in a similar situation, so I'm not inclined to try it again!

Charming! I know it's not for this thread but I do get sick of hearing stories like this.
