Stefano Bollani - Carioca

Posted on: 18 October 2008 by Lontano
Having just played this whilst whizzing round the Sussex countryside, I struggle to understand why it has picked up so many mediocre reviews. Thoroughly enjoyable. A bit more rocky than usual. Will get plenty of airplay for me.

PS - is the site very slow this weekend or just me getting slow responses

Thanks nymph, just ordered it. My mums friend used to own the house where some of the filming was done. Sadly (or not) it has been knocked down and the Car park will be following soon, if indeed it hasn't already gone.

I don't think so, I think it was a limited edition packaging with poster when the Castle re-release was issued. Find the vinyl if you can, it's also fab but can be hideously expensive. Found mine in a record fair a long time ago.

Anthony & The Johnsons-Another World [EP]

quote:
Antony & The Johnsons emerged on the international stage in 2005 with their breakthrough "I Am A Bird Now." His first new material since 2006 is a prelude to the new full-length, "The Crying Light", coming in January 2009. Of the project, Antony said, "I wanted to mark this moment very clearly in my life. I love and feel so anchored by the natural world, which gave birth to me, which supplies and supports my life, this experience of color and light and aching beauty. But the world is changing so fast now. 'Another World' is a song for the present but also a song for the future. What have I lost? And what is to come?"

One of my favorites. Cool

Boy do they hit a groove on disk 3, McLaughlin really thunders through some of the takes on there.

I also managed to get a second hand square box of the 'Bitches Brew' sessions on Ebay today. A little scuffed, but will fit better next to the other sets.

I never got box 2 (Miles Davis and Gil Evans sessions) or 3(Columbia early 60's). The latter is easy to find in the square box (I don't think it was re-issed), but box 2 seems very hard to track down. Still a bit more Ebay and no doubt it will turn up one day.

Just editing together a couple of recordings of Miles Davis in Paris 1991, when he had a lot of his past sidemen back. A great DVD recording of 6 tracks, and the complete set from FM via cassette, pretty good sound, but with a DJ who talks incessantly, and right over the music. Words do not fail me for my views on that DJ, but they are not ones I would use here.
