I got distracted when it was on, so don't really know if any good.

Huw,

I ordered Hamelin's latest disc of Godowsky. Did you have a chance to get his Ncolai Medtner? I definitely think that it is one of his best.

A largely vinyl weekend so far...

And a bit of CD...

CD2 BBC sessions, etc

(If you like Devon Sproule, you should like Amy LaVere; to me she seems more imaginative and varied.)

This weekend, I've been listening to the last of the CDs I bought in Koln recently. Firstly, two concerts (Tokyo and Sappora) from Jarret's Sun Bear set:

The faint praise in the Penguin Guide put me off buying this for a long time, but to my ears it's some of the best playing Jarrett's ever recorded. The mood is mostly introspective, and not as showy as Koln Concert, but if you admire Jarrett's solo work, and have ever considered buying Sun Bear, I'd say go for it.

Next up, Pablo Held, another young German Pianist who appears to be based in Koln:

Classic piano trio format - very good album, I think.

Finally, this delightful CD of Piano & Vibes/Marimba duos, also on the Pirouet label:

It's called "Koko" and the musicians are Taiko Saito & Niko Meinhold. Highly recommended.

Regards
Nigel
