Hello Denis,

I don't think you'd be disappointed with this one. There simply isn't a duff track in sight. Gavin Clark's vocals are superb as usual and the album has been well recorded.

I've just ordered 'Small Circle' and 'Cuban Green'. I can only imagine both will be excellent. Clark and Co. deserve more recognition IMO. I hope to see them live at some stage.

Happy New year

George.

George,

Happy new year to you. I will certainly order 'Mine at Last' and look forward to a new release this year. The Band's website has indicated for about 6 month's that recording is in progress. Both 'Small Circle' and 'Cuban Green' (especially 'Grasscutter') are excellent. A band definitely worth seeing for sure.

Anyone reading this should seriously consider buying Sunhouse here and then follow up with
Clayhill

Just tried listening to a band I liked in the early 80s, Marillion, 'Script for a Jesters Tear'. Not an enjoyable experience.

Not deigning to post the cover art for it, as I do think it is one of the worst albums covers I have ever seen.

Marillion -
remember a song about 'going punting' which i found amusing at the time, apart from that they didn't flick my switch at all.
Fair play to those that like them though..

Mike.

Some of the finest lyrics from Fish . Garden Party.

Garden party held today
Invites call the debs to play
Social climbers polish ladders
Wayward sons again have fathers
Hello, Dad, hello, dad

Edgy eggs and queuing cumbers
Rudely wakened from their slumbers
Time has come again for slaughter
O on the lawns by still Cam waters
A slaughter, it's a slaughter

Champagne corks are firing at the sun again
Swooping swallows chased by violins again
Straafed by Strauss they sulk in crumbling eaves again
Oh God not again

Aperitifs consumed en masse
Display their owners on the grass
Couples loiter in the cloisters
social leeches quoting Chaucer

Doctor's son a parson's daughter
W where why not and should they oughta
Please don't lie upon the grass
Unless accompanied by a fellow
May I be so bold as to perhaps suggest Othello

Punting on the Cam is jolly fun they say
Beagling on the downs, oh please do come they say
Rugger is the tops, a game for men they say

I'm punting, I'm beagling, I'm wining, reclining, I'm rucking, I'm f***ing
So welcome, it's a party

Angie chalks another blue
Mother smiles she did it too
Chitters chat and gossips lash
Posers pose, pressmen flash

Smiles polluted with false charm, locking on to Royal arms
Society columns now ensured, returns to mingle with the crowds
Oh what a crowd

Punting on the Cam, oh please do come they say
Beagling on the downs, oh please so come they say
Garden party held today they say
Oh please do come, oh please do come, they say.

King Crimson 'Frame by Frame' (boxset, disc 1 1969-71). Enjoying this so much more. Just sang the lyrics of 'Cat Food' to my cat, who was particularly unimpressed.

Marillion, I find no joy in their playing, Fish's lyrics are quite good. I saw then four times, the day they were signed to EMI, they played the Theakston's Music Festival that day, and were good. Then on each of the next three tours.

By 1986 (Misplaced Childhood tour) I had seen bands who played similar music with some force, notably IQ, Marillion just seemed to be phoning in the performance.

The cover art is a real hate of mine, red and green text next to each other! I don't think there is a single colour from the palette the artist has not managed to spray on there somewhere, and the perspective..... I know there is enjoyment in looking at the details and references therein.

To compare, have a look at James Marsh's illustrative artworks for the Talk Talk albums around the same time, lovely, memorable covers.
