To compare, have a look at James Marsh's illustrative artworks for the Talk Talk albums around the same time, lovely, memorable covers.

I used to have two giant (2m*1M) Marillion posters on the wall of my student digs. Life moves on but I still like the covers from those early albums. Suppose art is very personal. The Talk Talk covers are fine but do not excite me in anyway. I would never look at them and think "great cover".

'Feint-Heart and the Sermon' and also 'The Comet, The Course, The Tail' are two of Peter Hammill's finest compositions, and, of course, lyrics.

Have you heard 'The Peel Sessions'? 'Feint-Heart ...' is played solo on piano, and is possibly even better than the album version. I was also listening to a VDGG bootleg (audience recording, virtually no VDGG soundboards were made) where the band plays 'Feint-Heart ...', just fantastic.

And I rather like this cover, PH's handwriting is wonderful.

I agree. I thought it was a cracking album...I am not a Kid Rock fan but this made me open to suggestion with regard to his back catalouge.

Jamie not played this one much but pretty good. The Peel session is a bonus on the CD and I prefer that version of Faint.

Cheers

Is it any good?

Yes! In a lo-fi kind of way-- shambling (maybe shuffling is a better word-- bops along in an easy going way) sound-- similar sounding performers that immediately come to mind are Barbara Manning, and Beat Happening...

Worth persevering with the album versions, 'Feint-Heart ...' is rewarding, although I do find the synthesized album version of '(No More) the sub-Mariner' far less enjoyable compared to the session version.

The arrangements of this album are not as easy to listen to as the previous two solo albums 'Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night' and 'The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage', but many of the songs from 'In Camera' have been regular parts of PH's set lists to this day. All three albums from the 73-4 hiatus from VDGG are favourites of mine.

I have not bought the remaster of this, is it the quality much improved? I already have the extra tracks on the 'Peel Sessions' album.

Pity the BBC4 prog night didn't mange to find time for VDGG, but it did well, and you can not fit in every band who played a track over 10 minutes.
