Led Zeppelin - Madsion Square gardens 12 Feb 1975 (soundboard). Listening to the CDR copy I have, not the vinyl copy I recently bought for my cover artwork.

Have really got back into this since seeing the performance broadcast by the BBC last week. It is also very good to work to, as I am finding it very hard to get back into being creative this new year.

Did you come to a decision over these choices? I would not like to split them!

Coltrane vs. Hawkins vs. Pepper
Monk vs. Leviev
Giving some old vinyl a spin - sun is shining but brass monkeys outside, nice to be in the warm.
Nic, a tough call but it would have to be Monk and Coltrane. I love Coleman Hawkins tone but the span of Coltrane's vision / work edges it. As much as I like Art Pepper, he's an easy third in that company.
With regards Monk, I worked really hard at trying to understand what was so special about his quirky, angular style. One evening, many years ago almost in exasperation I gave Alone in San Francisco a spin on my LP12 and it just clicked. Blues for the Fisherman is a great disc but it can't really compete with Monk's pre-Columbia work.

Considering my blatant lack of knowledge of this fine composer, much of this work seems familiar somehow… sounding Mozart’ish here and rather Beethoven like too so many places. He doesn’t come over to me as a Russian composer, but imho he deserves more investigation, and recognition.
This album represents excellent examples of his work, all jolly enjoyable to my ears on very superb audiophile quality cd.

For those who are into 'new age space rock' don't be without this - a truly awesome album..

After being told by Mrs Markah that when I'm at home on leave I need to put my feet up more and chill out to music, I somehow resisted the urge to disagree with her and played a few tunes................

Arve Henriksen - Cartography
David Sylvian - Everything And Nothing
Martha Wainwright - I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too
