Is the live verson of "Supper's Ready" better than the original?
imo...yes i would say so
I love the version of 'Cinema Show' especially as it had Bruford on drums for the first half, and also as second drummer on last minute, but I prefer Collins (studio versions) drumming to Chester Thompson's on the rest of the tracks, 'I Know What I like...' being the exception, Chester Thompson really did excel on that track, and for many years afterwards.
I much prefer the Foxtrot version of 'Suppers Ready', but each their own.
In general I am not much of a fan of Chester Thompson's playing in Genesis.
The 1976 shows that are around are fantastic, especially the new soundboards of the Hammersmith show that have surfaced recently. Understandable that Bruford was not going to be only a live session drummer, and Genesis really was not the right band for him, pity for Genesis though.
Now playing Steely Dan 'Record Plant LA 1974' seesion.

Just seen the special Radio 2 recording at Abbey Road w/BBC Concert Orchestra. It's on BBC2 (Red Button) and on a loop. Not sure if it's today only. It was very good and must have been quite something if you were in the audience. An excellent band and one the best gigs I saw last year.

This is a bit of a curates egg, some wonderful gems - but also some dross in terms of recordings.

What a great night on WAYLTRN3.
Bartoli-Bellini, The Pianist, Be Good Tanyas, M. Peyroux, John Martyn, Duffy, Buddy Guy. My kind of music. Wish we could conference how our systems are sounding in 24/96, maybe one day.
