Steve Hackett, Reading Festival 1979. Source: BBC Rock Hour Pre-FM Open Reel. Not as good as his 1981 performance there though.

John Coltrane Interstella Space.

Ok supper club jazz this ain't! but it has to be one of the most powerful pieces of music ever recorded ....it always leaves me breathless!

Meanwhile back in the world of structured melody and form ....

For me his best album - the solos are just awesome.

Glad we are not in Melbourne but it's not a lot better here.

Hope the tubes are keeping you nice and warm in the listening room. Oh well, at least you can jump in the pool. 44C was the hottest when I was there.

Almost 47C in Melbourne - a new all time record. Could go as high as 49C over the next few days. Not quite as bad in Sydney right now. Cool

Joni Mitchell 'Court and Spark'. I do prefer the starker sounding albums before and after this, 'For the Roses' and later 'Hejira' and 'Mingus', but despite the rich (pop) arrangements, the songs are fantastic.

Munch
The American Beauty score is an excellent album, really well recorded. A bit spooky to drive in the dark to though.
