Adrian - do you also have the live version? Like most of their live recordings it is very good. There will also be a live DVD from the Snakes & Arrows tour out in November, recorded in Holland.

Yes I have got it. I have never really listened to it properly so may give it a blast later.

Cheers

Hello ken,

This is one of my favourite. I confess that my "favourite" Cohen album often changes. I think the one I really love the most is Ten New Songs, but I'm also really fond of Various Positions, and sometimes I fall for others for a while. No bad record from Cohen anyway (yeah well, the Spector... and not many are fond of Dear Heather to be honest).

What I like in New Skin... is the for once standard orchestration. Not the delirium from Phil Spector, not the mostly synthetic arrangements he'll prefer some years later, not the prominent folk guitar from the beginnings, just a simple orchestration that suits the melodies well. Sometimes he tries to push his voice too much, but the effect is not bad.

And of course the songs are wonderful (Chelsea Hotel No. 2, Lover, Lover, Lover, There Is a War, Who by Fire, Take This Longing).

I've just finished Tom Perrotta's The Abstinence Teacher. If this is not exactly The Grateful Dead, it's close and some of them play on the record.

Just played Opeth Damnation for the third time today. Now onto their 2008 release Watershed.

You're nothing if not obsessive, lol! I now have "Damnation" being delivered on Tuesday, along with the other 20-odd that are just a bit too easy to add to my Amazon basket! Winker Keep 'em coming.

Pretty certain you will really like Damnation. What are the other 20?
