Arrived today. Highly recommended on vinyl (if you can get it)!Includes the Sun Giant Ep too.
Very much more open sounding and the voices less boxy than the CD.
[The only downside is the inner sleeve static, which is almost enough to stick an elephant to a balloon. But a go in the good old Okki Nokki will soon sort that out!]
Happy camper,
James
Delighted to report that a go on the Okki Nokki has indeed removed all tiny ticks (static) and with that horrid mould release agent removed revealing that lovely black velvety shine, the sound is bit more together.
[The small number of marks I reported on the other thread (from handling machinery during manufacture) are disappointing and unsightly, but can't be heard at all.]

Everyone's out, so my first end-to-end listen to the recently-arrived vinyl version at 'reasonable' (i.e. for which read 'unreasonable') volume. FANTASTIC.

JOHN FRUSCIANTE : The Empyrean (2009)
John writes: "It is a concept record that tells a single story both musically and lyrically. The story takes place within one person, and there are two characters. It contains a version of Tim Buckley’s, ‘Song To The Siren’ and the rest of the songs are written by me. My friend Josh plays on it, as does Flea. It also features Sonus Quartet, Johnny Marr and The New Dimension Singers. I’m really happy with it and I’ve listened to it a lot for the psychedelic experience it provides. It should be played as loud as possible and it is suited to dark living rooms late at night."
For electric guitar lovers...
Paul

Mat, put it this way - I really like all the Elbow albums; I really, really like the first 'Asleep in the Back'; I really, really, really, really like 'Seldom Seen Kid' and it has a fantastic unputdownable quality that makes you - well, me at least - want to play it again and again!
I got the CD the week it was released, I've just bought the vinyl, I watched them play it almost end to end on their recent tour, and I recently ordered the live version. And I'm still not sick of it!!!
It's given me a taste for 45rpm vinyl, so...

On first listen - it's a nice disc but not a must have IMHO. The Waifs live disc is very good. Some nice songs on the Marianne double CD but find it a bit tiring to listen to the whole thing.

I love the Waifs, looks like that's another one on my 1-click list for today
Can't stop spinning Peter Tosh at the moment, Jamaican sunshine to beat the winter blues. I must be odd as I prefer Tosh to Marley by a long way.
