i purchased this 3 ELO LP box-set brand new back in the very early 1980's, and at a time when i didn't own a turntable. A couple of years later with a rega planner, i sadly found to my disapointment, that the 3 ELO records in my box-set were so badly manufactured they were totally unenjoyable to listen to : (

On the third day, Elderado, and Face the Music, are imho about the best ELO albums to get musically, and a fantastic box-set if only the vinyl is well made.

I hope your box full are okay Huwge! : )

Bought minty new in 1978 iirc and the GBP 8.99 rrp incl. VAT sticker still on the box! No issues with these discs, thank goodness.

Jamie,

Obviously having some fun at 45 RPM! Got most of these myself, just hard work on the knees getting up to change the disc every three minutes. 12" versions at least allow you to get comfortable!

Regards

Nic

Not the CD, but vinyl. I can not stop playing Oistrakh's rendering of Shostakovich's violin concerto. A 523R load on the Glider, courtesy of Dr. Pete, has found the sweetspot for my listening room.

Oistrakh just gets this music so much better than most other players and the New York Philharmonic fill the gaps admirably. It probably helps that the concerto was written for Oistrakh. Vengerov is close, but if the CD sounds as good as the LP then it is a no brainer. Nice combo with the cello concerto, where Rostropovich also excels.
