Cool title, will have a look for it. Cool

Ooh, very interesting. What's it like Adrian? A day off for me, relaxing with this:

"Live at the Fillmore East" The Allman Brothers on SHMcd. Superb music for Friday lunchtime!

Nigel - it is good. Atmospheric sound textures. Electronics by Jan Bang who appeared on the Arve Henriksen album. Trumpet over the top of the textures from Hassell. Not melodic but rather atmospheric mood music. Great late night listening and I bet awesome on a good pair of headphones - might try that tonight. Not released in Europe until late March but available from the US.

Cheers

Again, not the right sleeve as on LP - can't believe this recording dates from 1959. Stern on top form here.

Alela Diane - To Be Still - I like this. Easier to like than her first album IMHO

Fennesz/Sakamoto - Cendre

My original LP developed a nasty jump on the first track of side 2. Today the postie delivered a minty version from the Bay, all is well again.

It's been a day for the violinists, I guess I should break out some Jascha next.

Now you tell me - I just nipped out to buy it! And came back with this instead:

The last good Genesis album?!

Whoops! Hassell was released in the US first to tie in with his Feb US tour. ECM are having some real distribution problems in the UK at the moment as Pinnacle went out of business so there has been little new release activity so far this year here. Anyway Monday sees KJ, Rava and Cyminology finally come out.

As for ATTWT - I think it was a good album with shorter songs rather than the longer Genesis pieces of old but not as good as TOTT and W&W before it. I do think that Duke that came after ATTWT was their last great album - in fact I think Duke is one of their very best.

No worries - I looked for Rava and Cyminology while I was out, but no dice (obviously). I also bought an old Jarrett/Burton CD. I may have to give "Duke" another listen, as you rate it so highly, but I remember it as patchy with some great moments. After that it all went pear-shaped!

Really like thos CDs you sent me, by the way. Must do you yours sometime soon!

Cheers

Glad to hear you like them. Both rather lovely albums in their own different ways.

I must agree, I still like Duke, although tend to skip 'Misunderstanding', it is one of my favourite Genesis albums, as my first album by them it also has good nostalgia value.

Have always found 'And Then There Were Three' very samey and flat, but do like a couple of tracks.

I remember buying Abacab when it came out, listening it once and letting a friend have it for what I paid. A couple of years ago, I listened to the live version of Dodo and remembered that Collins drumming on the studio version was interesting, and very stupidly bought it on CD. Collins drumming is good on Dodo, and that is the only good thing I can say about the album, it must be one of the worst collections of 'songs' I own. What Hugh Padgham did as a producer is a mystery to me, maybe said 'Yeah that sounds great' to any piece of c**p the band dished out.

It was the first I bought as well and is very special as a result. I remember getting it from WH Smith in Camberley back in 1980. I loved the cover in a way only an LP can give you. Next day I went back and bought and And then there were three. Special times collecting all those Genesis albums and just loving all the wonderful music and covers.
