Is it very deep?[/QUOTE]
Hmm don't know how to answer either of those questions. Certainly has some really good bass notes ( really, it does) , but there is no way this is deep music in the sense of being very profound. In common with most of the Hiroshima albums (like obon and The bridge) this a fusion of jazz/funk & oriental music. It is rather restful to me, but some will call it elevator music.
cheers

Hi Nigel !
Not sure if I'm "back", but must confess that I haven't really cared about the forum due to new job, vacations, shift of interests, etc. I feel flattered that people tell me that they were missing me, here, and appreciate those comments, of course.
W/r to comparing the three Norrlands: They are all great in their own sense. What makes the third one a real step forward is teh addition of the three singers. So sweet ! Breaks my heart...
I know the Saturn shop for more than 35 years, now (it used to be the world biggest LP store, for some time. Nit sure about today) Don't go there with money. And don't go there with time. Bankrupcy alarm !
Currently listening to
Respect forbids to listen to this in a too analytical way. Enjoyable, and a historic moment.
cheers
Stefan

Anybody has listened to the new Bebo & Cigala ?
In case you want recommendations, here are two that I listen(ed) to, today, and like:
The astonishing third "volume" (and both other recordings are also amongst my fave's)
and the fantastic (this is only the second Widmann, where the first one is so much more than an eyebrow raiser !)
Hi Stefan, good to see you back - you know a lot of us rely on you for good recommendations, right? How does Norrland III compare with volume II (Cow Cow)? I bought the latter, along with about twenty other CDs at Saturn records in Ko:ln recently - I was in absolute awe of the jazz selection in that shop! The Schumann seems to be picking up lots of favourable comment, so I might give that a try. I'm also very keen to hear the Scelsi CD on ECM New Series, after hearing an item about modern Italian composers on Radio 3 at the weekend - do you know that one?
Right now I'm listening to Trevor Pinnock playing Scarlatti - great, but rather lively, and I'm worried that it will keep me awake later!
Regards
Nigel

Too late - I spent a whole morning in there, and eventually had to break for coffee. It's the most I've ever spent on CDs in one go. Probably just as well I don't live anywhere near it. I understand the shifting interests thing, but hope you'll find time to drop by with an occasional recommendation.
Cheers

No, just a city break. Managed to catch some good live music , including, Louis Sclavis Trio (absolutely fantastic!), and [em] trio (great). That's one awe-inspiring cathedral you have ther! The other highlight was a cruise down the middle Rhine, ending up in the walled mediaeval village of Bacharach - a delightful place. Never been to Amsterdam, but it's on my list.

Here the circles close, Nigel:
Eva Kruse, the bass player of [em], plays on the Norrell. And does well, too !

I cannot imagine anything more fluid or smoother. Listening to it through tube amplification would probably be like swimming in thick syroup. Anyway, the music itself is great.
