Jeff - if you like Dave Holland I really recommend checking out the album of his called Extensions. I think this is the best thing he has ever done and was one of the first jazz albums I ever bought. It is also one of the cheap touchstones releases from ECM.

Adrian,
thanks for the recommend, I will keep it in mind. Parts of the Holland on disc X is a bit free form for my tastes on the first couple listens but this often becomes enjoyable as I familiarize myself to the sound with repeated listens. The disc IX of Pat Metheny is spectacular. Never a big fan, but several tracks on this are very special stuff.

A quick play thru before the football, Missiles promises to be the best Dears album so far. Murray Lightburn is a huge talent from Canada.

The thing about the rarum series is that you get such a mixture of stuff on the CD's. What it does is give you a chance to hear which of the arists albums you might like best and then you can explore that genre further.

There are a lot of good Metheny albums on ECM and I particualarly recommend Travels, First Circle, Offramp, As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls and Rejoicing. 80/81 if you want to try something a little freer.

On ECM - Egberto Gismonto Solo

I wonder why most harp players are women. Perhaps it has something to do with man's bony chest..
