Due to the addition of my beloved LP12 I am rediscovering the 70's and 80's... And it is big fun!

Huw - how do you get on with these version by Lewis? I really like them and all four of his Beethoven releases are superb IMHO - they certainly have been very well reveiwed. I prefer them to the Schiff Beethoven Sonata releases on ECM.

Well recorded and very accomplished - I am not as familiar with the solo piano work as I am with Beethoven's quartets and violin sonatas, so can't judge other than to say they seem very good.
I need to give my Brendel discs a spin as these seem to be the benchmark. I think they may be in the basement so it may take a while for me to dig them out.

That is a good album. I personally would not bother with the other Metheny Meldhau release. It is not as good as is also one of the only albums that my system cannot cope with - it really breaks it.
So much good Metheny to try. Still life talking is my gave with the pat metheny group a mix of world rock and jazz. Travels is an outstanding live album as is trio live. His recent release the way up takes a bit of getting used to but is rewarding after repeated listens.
Offramp and First circle are other favourites plus his debut classic bright size life. 80/81 also has some stunning tracks

What a superb record that looks - I have In darknesse let me dwell by John Potter, Stephen Stubbs, John Surman, Maya Homburger, Barry Guy. Dowland is a magic figure to me - did he really write everything credited to him I wonder, if he did then he was a true genius.
In darkness let me dwell, the ground shall sorrow be,
The roof despair to bar all cheerful light from me,
The walls of marble black that moist'ned still shall weep,
My music hellish jarring sounds to banish friendly sleep.
Thus wedded to my woes and bedded to my tomb
O, let me living die, till death do come.
