Not sure if all is 100 percent deductable, and there is quite some duplicating, but I can wholeheartedly confirm that his music is great. THIS record shows completely new perspectives (compared to the ECM you mentioned) and is worth while comparing.

cheers

What a superb record that looks - I have In darknesse let me dwell by John Potter, Stephen Stubbs, John Surman, Maya Homburger, Barry Guy. Dowland is a magic figure to me - did he really write everything credited to him I wonder, if he did then he was a true genius.

In darkness let me dwell, the ground shall sorrow be,
The roof despair to bar all cheerful light from me,
The walls of marble black that moist'ned still shall weep,
My music hellish jarring sounds to banish friendly sleep.
Thus wedded to my woes and bedded to my tomb
O, let me living die, till death do come.

Stefan - I have not given up on this one. I am waiting for the right moment. When I bought it the guy in the store told me it was best listened to in a dark room with a good pair of headphones. That will be my strategy.

Stay close to that guy, Adrian ! He knows his business Winker

But seriously: Have listened to this quite some times on the iPod (headfones) and in the car. It has a natural climax towards the end, when everything comes together (if you haven't fallen asleep, that is). A bit like the Köln concert, if you know what I mean...

cheers
Stefan

Susanna (Wallumrod) - Flower of Evil

Flower of Evil” is twelve sublime cover versions of mostly well known songs as well as two Susanna originals, all beautifully sung by one of the most exceptional new voices of recent years, lovely accompanied by her trusted band members Helge Sten (Deathprod, Supersilent) and Pål Hausken (In The Country) and with Bonnie ”Prince” Billy guesting on two songs. Whether it´s Thin Lizzy or Sandy Denny, Black Sabbath or Nico, Lou Reed or Abba, all are given the very personal Susanna treatment. Susanna is known as an extraordinary interpreter of songs, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" and "Hallelujah" from Susanna and the Magical Orchestra´s "Melody Mountain" have been widely hailed as excellent versions of "difficult" songs.

Susanna Karolina Wallumrød: grand piano, hammond organ and vocals
Pål Hausken: drums, percussion, vibraphone and vocals
Helge Sten: guitars

Bonnie ”Prince” Billy: vocals on "Jailbreak" and "Without You"

Jailbreak (Phil Lynott)
Can´t Shake Loose (Russell Ballard)
Who Knows Where The Time Goes (Sandy Denny)
Vicious (Lou Reed)
Without You (Pete Ham, Tom Evans)
Dance On (Prince)
Joy And Jubilee (Will Oldham)
Janitor Of Lunacy (Nico)
Changes (Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Bill Ward)
Wild Is The Will (Susanna K. Wallumrød)
Don´t Come Around Here No More (Tom Petty, Dave Stewart)
Goodbye (Susanna K. Wallumrød)
Forever (Roy Harper)
Lay All Your Love On Me (Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus)

This 50CD behemoth arrived at the weekend:

A box set celebrating 50 years of Deutsche Harmonia Mundi - not to be confused with a similar box covering the French label of the same name. Another great classical music bargain. I'm on CD3 - a fine version of the Goldbergs, played on Harpsichord by Gustav Leonhardt.

Nigel

All very nice and polite. Inoffensive. Enjoyable enough for my drive to work but doubt that it will be hitting my playlist too often going forward.
