Yes, so long as you like Keith Jarrett. My favourite of his is 'Up for it' with Jack DeJohnette and Gary Peacock - the Standards Trio. Recorded live in the rain in France.

Nigel, fully agree with you. "Up For It" has the spirit of the trio as it should be in every concert.

"Live at Montreux" takes a lot of time before it "comes to the point", IMHO

The Out-Of-Towners is another one I do like very much for the same reasons.

Stefan

That's another favourite of mine. I prefer the trio albums to the solos; good as the latter are.

Two other excellent solo piano albums are 'Piano solo' by Stefano Bollani on ECM, and 'Au theatre des Champs-Elysees' by Michel Petrucciani on Dreyfus. Petrucciani was a great player; sadly no longer with us. Both are well worth checking out.

While we're on the subject of solo piano albums, I can't recommend Bojan Z's "Solobsession" highly enough. He's been described - in true lazy journalist fashion - as an East European Keith Jarrett, but has a style of his own. "Solobsession" is just dazzling, as is his piano trio CD, "Transpacifik", which won some European jazz record of the year award when it was released. More info here:

Bojan Z

Stefan - I replied to your query about the Paul Bley CD in the other thread. I recommend that you buy it!

I was looking for Bojan Z performances on YouTube and came across this:

Playground

It's a quirky short film that uses a piece from "Solobsession" as its soundtrack. Very nicely done, I think.

I´ve bought "My foolish heart" today and I´ve been listening it the past half hour.Is just great,a beautiful harmony between Keith,Peacock and DeJohnette. The bass is a great performer,as well as the drumer and Keith plays so well the piano, great pace and rythm! As soon as I got free time ,I will compare Keith with Meldhau, cause I have a few records of Brad but long time I don´t listen it!Most time I prefer to hear alternative and pop music, and just after a while I´ve got mood for Jazz! love keith jarrett -- he is almost spirited player -- with all the grunts and groans. i recall hearing Koln Concern on a naim system for the first time and being 'affected'...

i agree the stds with the usual trio are very good.

My favorite Jarrett is his 1973 Bremen/Lausanne Solo Concerts, reissued on CD by ECM. Two lengthy improvisations that have never been bettered in my opinion.
