Ernest Ranglin

Howdy folks,

Right now I'm listening to Ernest Ranglin's 'Below the Bassline' and really love it. Great hifi demo/test cd too, comes up everytime! Can anyone suggest to me anything else, pretty much just like this? This isn't at all the sort of genre that I listen to alot, so I really dont have a clue where to go from here, but am definately curious. I have also heard his album 'Gotcha' but really didn't like it. Found the mood totaly different in a bad way. Hopefully someone will know what I mean. What are his other albums like? 'In Search of the Lost Riddim' in particular.

Also, as a side note.... can anyone tell me what instrument makes that kinda... hmmm... slowly warbling windy sound in the back ground. Probably best heard at the beggining of track 4.

I've got this too and I love it, it's a great CD. Also got a couple of others which I don't like nearly as much, can't remember the titles off hand, cos I never play them but I'll have a look when I get home.

For more great reggae tinged jazz, check out Yard Movement by Monty Alexander. He's a brilliant pianist and Ernest Ranglin also plays on most of it as a guest musician.

Goat,

Not really answering your query, but I also have Modern Answers to Old Problems and Memories of Barber Mack in addition to Below the Baseline, which are both wort aquiring IMHO. Rich is right Ranglin pops up on various other things I have, but too late on a Friday night to go searching, if you get my drift.

Regards
