What have I done to my system???

Posted by: Kevin-W on 24 June 2003

On Sunday I switched everything off and unplugged all boxes because of the lightning.

Last night when I got back from work I decided to move everything round, move the power amp and PS away from the radiator and sources. All very nice. But when I switched on the power amp I got a hideous howl through my speakers.

After investigation, it turns out that I'd put the SNAIC in the back of my 160 incorrectly (silly me).

I've blown a tweeter as a result (this is fixable so it's not too traagic), but have I damaged any other part of my system? Have tried it out and everything - apart from the aforementioned tweeter - seems to be working fine.

Any thoughts most appreciated

Thnx in advance

Did much the same thing myself last year. Put the snaic in the wrong socket. VERY LOUD NOISE and blew the tweeter in one speaker. When I took the speakers to my dealers to be fixed, One of Naims' reps was there. He told me that there was nothing to worry about, and IIRC, that he'd done the same thing at a demo evening in front of an audience, which made me feel better.

Good luck with the speaker repair,

Will.

Footnote to above.

I don't think that my little accident last year is related to THIS. But I am not qualified to say. Hope not.

Hi Will

Thanks for the reassurance. I was hoping someone would say something like that!

The speaker repair will be simple, as I replaced the drives myself last year (the speakers are 19 years ld and the drivers had gone soft!)

Cheers
