Rage Against The Machine for Christmas No1

Posted by: bornwina on 09 December 2009

I heard yesterday the Rage Against The Machine facebook group are planning a big push to get 'Killing in the name of' to Christmas Number 1 in order to give Simon Cowell a good hard kick in the nuts. It received Radio 1 coverage yesterday

A worthy cause I hope you would agree - to support it simply download this track after December 13th.

Wouldn't it be simpler and more satisfying to just kick Simon Cowell in the nuts?

Do you know where he is?
I guess just get on the end of the queue?

Simon Cowell - a more arrogant man it is difficult to imagine. He thinks he knows about music but I wonder if he could tell a Mozart symphony from a Beethoven?

What a coincidence I was thinbking the other day I need to get some Rage Against The Machine so I can do that and try to get the word FUCK on the radio and piss Simon Cowell off, thats a win win win in my book. Smile

Wake up, open your eyes, and have a look at this fairly amusing rant about the whole thing here.

This would suggest it's win win for Mr Cowell:

"Plus, if you really want to rage against the Simon Cowell machine, 'Killing In The Name' is a bizarre song to pick, since it's a Sony BMG catalogue track – just like 'Hallelujah', 'Don't Stop Believin', and all those other tunes which mysteriously crop up on The X Factor time and again.

In case you're unaware of the corporate link, Sony BMG have exclusive rights to Simon Cowell's artists. His own label, Syco, is owned by Sony. He's hardly likely to be soiling his high-waisted trousers over the prospect of a few thousand extra download sales of 'Killing In The Name'. He's probably got shares in the company."

Lol. Ever get the feeling you've been had?!

What is most annoying about this, is that I find myself agreeing with the N.M.E.

Cowell has even more to answer for now!

I think you miss the point trying to be made or more likely are attempting for reasons unknown to confuse the point with a load of old twoddle toss wank.

To give me some credit, that was precisely my point!

I thought that the rant I linked to and all the noise that followed it was amusing. That's all.

i love this whole debate. far more entertaining than the X Factor itself! Big Grin

300,000 downloads of RATM is only about £140,000 net digital revenue. At a major like Sony, that is nothing...Nothing more than one A & R department's drug habit!!!!

Its just a great song too (and a great album), full of anger and aggression and great dynamic performances on the bass and drums. Makes a great demo disc for trying out hifi!

Yep. Great record. Angry, angry young men. "Tom Morello is arguably the most exciting and interesting guitarist in rock music today" - discuss.

winky,
i might have agreed with that in 1992, when their finest work came out - if it were not for a lot of other great rock material coming out from other great guitarists at that time.

he is very inventive and boundary pushing with his 'sound' and flying the flag for the unison guitar/bass device that has become so identifiable. but his phrasing is pretty one track - some of the ostinatos he uses today in audioslave are uncannily similar to old Rage....not saying I don't like it. I do. I love it. But IMHO it is far from 'the most exciting and interesting guitar around today.'

I'm in the wrong job, I really am.

Apparently Cowell is condemning this as a cynical plot..................

He should try looking in a mirror sometime.

You make very good points. In the stuff from the RATM heydays, I rate him very highly. I also like his new stuff as the The Nightwatchmen, too - but that's not what I was talking about.

He needs to move it along a bit to regain his crown.

Actually the Chief has made a brilliant point and I couldn't agree more with his post.

I have to say I do like Simon Cowell and I love the X Factor. Joe McElderry is marvellous and should win tonight. He was brilliant with George Michael and upstaged him TBH. Can't wait for tonight.

I would be very surprised if he doesn't win tonight and the Xmas #1 is not in question - mind you, one record I will pass on despite X Factor and American Idol being my guilty pleasures.
