Why is the audio quality of music degenerating?

I know it's a bit long...
But it shows the state that the music industry is currently in. For the artists, the labels and the customer. A sad but true story in my ears
I see similarities to other industries too. It's a very unhealthy development - Quo vadis?

Thanks for the link. Looks like a very interesting reading indeed. I'll give it the attention it deserves as soon as I'm back home! While listening to a fine little piece of music of course

I'm actually glad that the record companies have started producing rubbish for the last few years.
It means that rather than keeping tabs on all the new releases, I can discover other music/artists (usually via this forum) and buy some of their older albums which will generally be better quality.
One solution to this problem would be to get artists to sign up the Naim record label

"True excitement comes from variation in rhythm, tone, pitch and a wide range of dynamics which in turn provides space and warmth - something you're unlikely to find in much of today's rock/pop music."
that's why I listen to classical much of the time. Rock now wears on my nerves as a 50 year old. Natural instruments, sounds and dynamic range. There's huge drama in classical that lets my imagination and heart soar.

Interesting to hear the complaint from the inside rather than the outside of the music industry.
It also highlights for me the difference between someone creating a piece of music and the production of revenue. The first will always have merit and will over time pay for itself, where as the latter will only grate more with the passage of time. If you were to look at the revenue stream over a number of years the first would would continue to be bought long after the second is only good for the "I love the 50/60/70/80/90/00's" tv dross.

I discovered and loved the classical stuff from the age of nine ...
Premature senility, perhaps?

Had you grown up in the age of the ipod...you'd be posting in an Antique Motorcycling Forum right now.

Here is picture of my 1941 Royal Enfield Nodel "CO" - really a toughened-up 1930s Model "G" 350 cc single. It was a lovely bike!

Dear All,
The future is here in my local branch of Harvey Norman tv music system retailer.
The Music bar.
grab your memory stick mp3 player and download your favourite tracks on to your machine and pay at the till.
HHHHEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP
so rapid downloads equals El Crappo quality which the YOOOOFF of today are happy with.
Next from Naim the 505 MP3 player. Imagine DRAGGING AROUND THE POWER SUPPLY for this player.
Seriously the future of music in the home worries me.
The only goodnews will be that Vinyl will re emerge as the hi quality format and all the good stuff from small record labels will be for us.
regards david

But on the other hand... people is attending more to live concerts....
and people is listening at least 30% more music than they used to prior cellulars with music capabilities and of course the iPOD and the likes..... (AMPROFON study in Mexico).
Speed of life!
