Please can we decide on the best albums by
Thin Lizzy
Blue Nile
Porcupine Tree
Unfortunately, I don't have any records by these very worthy artists - so can't vote myself

Blue Nile - A Walk Across The Rooftops
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Porcupine Tree. In my opinion, In Absentia does not even rate in their top 5. My choice would be Coma Divine (live) or Signify (studio) or The Sky Moves Sideways or Deadwing or Fear of a Dark Planet or Recordings or Voyage 34 or ...
Over to you ....

Blue Nile - a close contest between "Walk Across the Rooftops" and "Hats", but WATR gets the nod from me.

Lizzy - Live And Dangerous. Classic live album.

Porcupine Tree - 'Fear of a Blank Planet'.

Lizzy - Live & Dangerous for me.

Blue Nile... hmmmm. Well, it ain't "High", that's for sure. I think I like "Peace at Last" the most and it has the strongest individual songs and I listen to it more than the others, or at least tracks off it, but it's less evocative than the first two and doesn't stand out in such a classic manner for a general recommendation, if that makes sense.
I think I'll have to give it to Hats.
Pete.

WHAT!?!?!!!
NO Thin Lizzy, Blue Nile or Porcupine Tree?????
Rectify that extremely serious ommission immediately Mr ROTF!!!
Excellent 70s, 80s and 90s bands in my opinion (ok PT are still going and Blue Nile have released an album in the last 10 years - they're not the most prolific band).
Lizzy and Blue Nile recommendations as per my original post
PT? Other posters have gone for the latest album, I prefer earlier PT but it's all good there isn't a duff PT album. Given your prog leanings I'd start with The Sky Moves Sideways then buy all the others.!

Agree I dont think there is a duff PT album.. Im not sure just one PT album in the list is enough.
If I had to pick one I would do it on the scale of whats been hitting the CDP the most this month.
And the winner is "In Absentia" and "FOABP"

Lizzy - Live & Dangerous. Or if you want studio stuff, Jailbreak.

Jailbreak as the Live album was also studio recorded in places and if the old grey matter is still working. Some of the songs were patched from different shows. I believe Scott Gorham is supposedly going to recitfy that sometime soon but don't hold your breath.
Procupine Tree - can't say never heard any of their stuff.
Blue Nile- Rooftops for me

Figting or Jailbreak. Hats never heard Porcupine

Its got to be Jailbreak, every track a gem. Now if it was a vote for top live album - Live & Dangerous would be up there at the top.

Thin Lizzy - 'Live and Dangerous' (first band I ever saw live, 1980 Leeds)
Porcupine Tree - 'Signify' and 'In Absentia'.
For me the period from 'Signify', through 'Stupid Dream' (also very good) 'Lightbulb Sun' (has great songs, but some duds too) to 'In Absentia' was a real purple patch.
I don't get 'Fear of a Blank Planet', I like heavy music, but not when Porcupine Tree play it. There are a lot of people who would disagree, it has been a very popular album and tour.
Blue Nile? Talk Talk and David Sylvian were artists for me at that time, never quite got into them.
