I can even remember that I was sat in the front of my Dad's Volvo 144, going into Wolverhampton on a sunny Saturday morning. Blimey, what year was that??

Hotel California by The Eagles.
That part where Don Henley sings about stabbing the beast with "steely knives" and not being able to kill it, well that caught my attention as a youngster.

Mick, this thread is about your first musical, not sexual, experience.

Earliest memories are of Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep, The Runaway Train and the Theme From Dr Who (The version with the great Harpsichord section) stacked up on a little red Dancette. Not quite sure why my parents were playing Dr Who to me- probably trying to frighten me into behaving.

Frank Ifield - "I remember you". Also seem to recall a punk version - "I remember you, you b*****d!"

"Puff the magic dragon" and some ragtime thing that I cannot quite remember the name of now.
The first pop record that I remember noticing on my own - i.e. without hearing it from older family members first - was "Video kills the radio star" by The Buggles, which I still think is a great record.

"Puppet on a string" Sandy Shaw ? (end of 60's)
"Puff the magic Dragon"
there was also a Rolph Harris song, don't remember it's title, but along the lines of "Two little boys had two little toys"

Usually on these kind of threads revisionism reigns! Eg "Yeh, I remember it was 'god save the queen' by the 'pistols, I was two and I made my parents buy it for me". For my part I cannot place my earliest recollection although 'puff the magic dragon' does have some resonance. I seem to recall it being played a lot when I travelled in my parents car? When was this gem released?

Tony Lonorgan said that?! Wow.
