Should be a good wireless client for your home wi-fi network, and will probably control your Mac Mini with bluetooth as well. With the ipod, I think it will be perfect for my wife to use in carpool line.

It might work by 2008! See today's Times, their reporter couldn't make a call with one and a rep admitted the software wasn't ready.

can you add your own software to it? will it synch with outlook?
is it a converged device, or more another entry into the world of apple?

You cannot add software to it, its locked down.
Unless the times guy was in America it won't work, but it did seems quite a staged demo, and none of the guys Jobs did the demo with had an iPhone you will notice. So if there was a working one, then it was one haha.
Should sync with OUtlook, they are certainly piptching it at windows users as well. You set up all your syncing requirements through iTunes, which you may feel is completly synical.

I'm sure that (not so) deep within me is a Mac user. I like the stuff generally, and appreciate the usability and design of the kit. Trust that qualifies me as not rabidly anti-mac - I'm genuinely interested in de-fenestration.
The idea of a 'wonderful new phone' that doesn't actually replace (eg - do the same and enhance) existing converged devices, leads to the question: Why?

Just buy a Blackberry Pearl. Then buy an iPod with the change. Then buy some music for the iPod, and maybe even a few months' worth of phone service, with the rest of the change.
(more about the Pearl)

You're a real man of my heart Nuno, it's the twenty first century, lets get into the technology, who cares about commercial issues. For myself, in the past I've bought Betamax & mini-disc, against all rational advice, what the heck, it's only money, whjatt else are you going too do with it.
