Lyric of the Year:

On my long weary journey back home
I took the less frequented path
And ended up in the Meadow of Consolation.
It was a magical place
I half expected a nymph to appear
Shyly from out of the break.
And with me dressed as a dandy in practice for the summer eights,
Even the glebe cow started to drool.
But then, almost inevitably, Clare Rayner appeared.

Elderly lady at the bus stop
Thinks I'm going to eat her
And so to reassure her
I ask her for the time
And her sense of relief at my friendly tone
Reveals itself in her karmic moan
"You can wait 20 minutes
And nothing comes along
And then all of a sudden
Three thugs rob your pension
Oh there's generally one at 25 past
They come swinging round that corner
They think they're Benny Goodman"

I thought it was a pretty average year for new offerings in terms of volume but the highlights more than made up for this including:

Josh Rouse-1972 (I didnt buy this when I first listened to it in the shop. Now I cant help thrashing and never grow tired of this fine Album)

Steely Dan-Everything must go (seems to have left my player now, but a great effort nonetheless)

Paolo Conte-Reveries (The man plays a mean Kazoo!)

Stefano Batista-Round Roma

Damien Rice-O (the guy really has got something to get off his chest)
