**** eBay....

Hi,

I just thought I'd have a gripe about eBay. I was selling a camera that was quite high value and bidding was going along great up until two hours before it was due to close. Then I got a 'question' on my camera from a person in China with zero feedback and it stated that my item was a fake/fraud and that he was selling the orginal item and it had been cloned, pictures and description - the swine even listed his item number and instrcted people to bid on his camera and not mine.

I reported this straight away to eBay who still have the fake item listed, they have not responded to my notification of this fraud.

The outcome - well bidding stopped on my item because all those who were watching/tracking the bidding must have doubted whether my item was genuine, and my reserve was not met, therefore my camera remains unsold and I have paid eBay a nice little sum for it.

I thought you only paid for the ad. if the item actually sold?

Thats what I thought... but I received my international invoice from eBay and the add for the camera is listed - I have questioned this.

Nope.

You pay listing fees regardless. I accidentally listed 30 items twice recently and had to beg ebay to let me off.

You'll notice if you ever end an item early that the listing fee is still very much charged.

But what really to gets to me is the time it took eBay to withdraw the cloned item - yes, I've just checked that it has been removed and it has. BUT I did a search for the type of camera I had listed and it has shown up agin with the exact same photo and description, word for word for a second time.

eBay need to get their act together on this one!

Hi Dave,

How did the "question" the fraudster asked show up on your items page, I thought you could choose whether or not to add questions

Post the link to the fraudster's ebay listing - we can start asking him questions.

Yet another example of why I just don't do Ebay.....

eBay frightens me. I simply ould feel to naive to tackle it, either for buying or selling anything. I would rather give something away than go in for this sort of vexation.

I know people who have bought and sold successfully, but they were more wise to the ways of the modern world tahn I shall ever be!

Ebay has gotten too big.
They now don't really care and if they do decide to take action on anything, it is
S-L-O-W.

The real winner is eBay.

the biggest loosers are the buyers as ebay protects sellers more than buyers. But, unless you are a power seller, you're not important to ebay.

Use local sites. Better.

ebay is fine is you have some common sense...with a gazillion transactions there are bound to be some bad experiences......just use your head before you buy or sell..

My eBay and Paypal account has been suspended pending 'investigation' - I am not the fraudster.

I also have over £200 pounds in my Paypal account and now cannot access it!

David

You do find yourself in an unfortunate position and I sympathise.

eBay finds itself in a tough position here as well....they have an allegation to investigate and have taken rapid action - that's the good news if you are concerned (as many here seem to be) that eBay does not take fraud seriously - but you are an innocent party and find yourself stuck meantime.

Hopefully you get it sorted out quickly.

Cheers

Jim

David,

I,m still confused as to how the question got listed with your ad?.

If I remember rightly, when you reply to a question about an item you have the option of allowing the question and part of the answer to appear under the item. For an example of a page where this has happened see:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NAIM-AUDIO-NAC-62-PREAMPLIFIER-MI...QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Not sure that explains what happened in this case.

I have no explanation as to how the person managed to post a reply on an item I was selling??? However, today I received confirmation from eBay that inappropriate access to my account/identity has taken place and that my account will be restored. Further more action has been taken to remove the bogus auctions!

I find this very worrying that someone has been able gain 'inappropriate access' to my account as I am careful to the extreme with regards to security/passwords etc...

All I need now is my Paypal account to be unfrozen!
