Obama's First Year

Chaps
Obama was elected mainly by promising change.
Simple question ... has he actually changed anything and if not will he be able to do so.
The Republicans have taken a safe Democrat seat and now his medical bill is looking difficult to move on and his oppenents seem to be outflanking him.
He even failed to charm any change on the environment at Copenhagen, so just what has he achieved.
I was convinced he was a bag of wind and so far I still remain convinced.
I suspect Palin is loving every minute of this.

Quick analysis, and it applies in virtually any siutation
Not as good as we hoped
Not as bad as we feared
Given the mess he inherited and the banking meltdown of unprecedented proportions just keeping his head above water is a major achievement.
But jeez, look at the alternatives.....

novelty, no disagreement sir. My perception is based on people I know & worked with mostly living around MN & WI. Most all were manual skilled & professional level research & design engineers & an equal mix of Republicans & Democrats not afraid to hold back in free & open debate when discussing politics.
It just struck me that the Reps had a very focused with a spoken as one view point, whereas the Dems argued amongst themselves over many things, rights & wrongs of society stuff. My experience formed my perception, I value & respect yours - Thanks
- I look forward to my next trip in May - vacation to Denver-Canyons-NP's - & to see a new part of the US for the first time

Mike,
Trust me when I say the average american is pretty much clueless about macro economic matters and the utter hypocrisy of their respective party platforms. Most true conservatives consider the GOP an embarrassment and those who identify strongly with the republican party are typically those whose world view is formed by the talking points of Hannity/Limbaugh/Beck. Modern day american politics is pretty sad if you value intelligent discourse.
Enjoy your trip, CO is a beautiful state. I recommend the Trail Ridge Road out of Estes Park if you have the time.

Cheers.
Mark.

Yup, no problems, it's already on the itinerary
Denver to Cheyenne via the NP & Trail Ridge - 12,187 feet. Hope the engine has some lungs.

The 70s were shit on the political front.
The music was great though.
Marc,
In ten years time M and Gabby will be saying to you? Dad do you remember that Hifi you had built in 2009/10 and the music you played when?Such and such.
The world will still be the same.
Swings and roundabouts.
Sorry to say
I still think OB wont last full term though.

Connected an av receiver today for fun. Have the fm running on the speakers. 2p wire to the speakers.Tried to connect the P2 but not enough gain. fun though.. Damn it rocks!!
Right now the whole world is shit. There is not one country leading the way. If someone says China I will reach through his screen and tear his head off.
As far as lasting a full term? I hope not..There would be riots!!! Marshal law!!
Where I live,California has 16% unemployment This does not include the underemployed. So some say there is a total of 23% unemployment in this state. In 29 it was somewhere near 25%. 4000 banks closed in 1 year. We are very close to this and so are you.
You export nothing!!
I will accept the Beatles as an answer.
Rolling Stones? Keep em..
Jaguar. Nope we own it.
Bently- Nope Volkiewiggin owns it.
Rolls- See above.
Range Woofer- Not that either. Damn! Can't you folks do anything right? We bought that too. Then we sold it for a profit.
Crap,if it weren't for our used American oak barrels? There wouldn't be Scotch!!
Boy Stu, I surly am in a mood!!

Next time your country is invaded? I'm taking the phone off the hook and putting on Fox news.

Another Rodney King thing? Hope to see it on,"Funniest home videos". Besides,we have air con and the L.A. police use bigger guns now. No need to use their feet anymore.
He didn't need to invade. He beat the shit out of you from the air.Remember the FritzCreig? Germany should have kept France.LOL!!!! I'm cracking myself up!!
People DO NOT take anything I am saying to heart. Take it to the bank..

I guess I need to send all this to my advisers. You know the ones who said," Sir, I do not think running for political office would be the right thing to do. However, there is an opening in Alaska".

Marc,
If your previous posts are an attempt at humour they are way off target.
If they are your real opinions then, sadly sir, you are a moron.
By the way, I think Naim is a pretty good British export, as clearly do you.

Colin-
Wipe your brow- It is the "Padded Cell".
Just being an ass. Not serious. Spouting with no real purpose or frame of mind.
I thought for sure if anyone would get the American sense of "HUMOR" it would be the Brits. Is this relationship moving to fast? I can slow it down and put on some soft gloves.
Now, if you want to give it back I'm ready for some true banter. Come on...You can do it! Have some fun..
OK,I will start.. Who owns Quad? Oh yeah, we do.

So you were only joking. Oh well thats alright then

If you want to have a serious discussion about the good and the bad of the US (and/or the UK) and where Obama fits in then I'm up for that.
Not really interested in a discussion with someone posting something they dont really believe to provoke a reaction.

The problem is what some retard calls wit, most of us call drivel.
There is a definate need to up the game around here when it comes to wit. We have not experienced "banter" in this thread, we have experienced brain dead moronic tosh that one would expect from a lower form school boy with the IQ of a poodle.

You have to admit, some of the drivel we get on this forum really is abysmal.
I used to be a regular contributor to this forum until about 3 years ago when we got invaded by smilie loving chavs and morons with the IQ of a chimp who posted jokes that weren't even funny to a six year old. I just gave up and now rarely log on.
Goodness knows what the answer is, but it is sad to see what was once the best hifi forum ever, being dragged down into the gutter by brain dead plebs.

At any level-
An exchange of light, playful, teasing remarks; good-natured raillery.
Mick-
Raise the bar. I'm sure, you Sir, will not bring forth the effort. You may insinuate, the "disabled",who roam these halls do not have the ability or the cranial capacity to insure your needs are met. However, it is not your ball, nor is it your house. It's not all about you...
If I need to waste some time during my day? I may do it here? There are some extremely nice people on this forum who have,it seems,a common interest in one thing. Anything beyond that there is no warranty.Show me the "high brow",and "poignant" conversation(s) you once experienced. I do not remember these times.. All I remember is a bunch of people giving their opinions.
Mick, raise the bar!! Stop regurgitating the same comments over and over and over.
It is not a private club that screens it's members to insure a "class" membership.
It is a hi fi forum!!! LOL!!!
If my expectations were the same as yours? I would not waste another moment of my time on this forum. However, This forum remains the best hifi forum on the net(inho). Anyone has the ability to start a thread and try and lead it's discussion. That same person will fail because there is no gatekeeper or common goal in mind.

Even your reply is drivel only fit for an eight year old to read.
If you want to continuing buggering up what was once a vibrant forum, then please carry on. Why Naim tolerate rubbish like you lowering the standard is beyond me but that's life.
This forum attracts only a fraction of postings that it once did and its standards were then high. People like you have taken over and rather than moan, people like me just stay away with the odd appearance now and then. Possibly we are as much to blame as you because we should have tackled you head on.
It obviously does not worry you , there is nothing I can do about it, so by the look of it you have won the day.
It is sad but there you go.

You must be the most intolerant, prejudiced, self centered, and borderline narcissistic person I have not had the pleasure to meet.
Let the world continue to pass you by. Make no effort to engage and understand that all you care about is your narrow, and bigoted views.

I guess that does it for the "Plea for Clemency", then...
It's all gone the way of Obama's original message to his nation - "Can't we all just get along?"
Doomed to failure. Oh well.
