Kan stands

Hmm,that's weird. i just ordered some brandnew Kan-II stands about 3 months ago.
Well, there are some (also cheaper) alternatives
for KanII stands.
Like:
Sound-Factory SF-7 (at around 120,- UKP)
I'm afraid these aren't made anymore too.
I only know of one store in Holland that still
have 'em in stock.
These stands look a lot like the Kan-II stands.
and Pro-Ject (from the budget-TT's) also make some open-frame stands that look a little like the Kan stands) (only about 90,- UKP pair)
Greetings,
Alco.
You don't want one of those, you want a pair of these ;-).

Is this a rational view and if so what speakers woud suffice(Index 2s have been recommended)

The consensus with the dealers seems to be to replace the Kan Mkl in the 2nd system with something which isnt going to reveal the weakness of the Arcam Aplha CD/Planar 2, superbias/Nait 2 feeding them rather than spending £165 on pukka Kan stands .
Don't buy new Kan stands in the UK, it is insanity to pay 165 quid for something that can be found for 40 second hand. Make some phone calls to UK Linn / Naim dealers and you will eventually find a pair, go to www.bada.co.uk for a list. As for the system balance, the middle and back are great, the Nait 2 drives Kans fine (I use the combo myself), pure budget high-end. Ok, so your Arcam CD and P2 are a little weak, and the Nait / Kan combo deserves better (mine get fed a P9 and CDX), but what you have should sound ok. Replacing the Kans with a vastly inferior speaker makes little sense, just get the stands second hand, sell the P2, and use the money from the sale along with the amount saved by not buying new stands to get a LP12 from Loot. As an example there is a really old LP12 with a SME 3009/2 in Loot at the moment for about 200 quid. Buy it, stick the SME on Ebay where it will make about £180 from some daft American, buy an second hand Ittok and a new arm board, and bobs your uncle. An LP12 base unit for 20 quid!
Tony.
14 dealers down and many more to go, no luck yet. The LP12 is tempting, but I am finding I dont use the one I've got in the main system enough (wait till the CDS2 upgrade arrives). The key is knowing how far to go, after all it will always be playing catch up with the main system!!
