Speaker links

Hi all
Just wondered if anyone has experimented with removing Bi-wired speaker links and replaced them with Naim`s A5? What results/imprivements if any?

Hi Gary,

Yessss, I did that. It was one of the first and also one of the most affordable upgrades you can
realise.

I removed the metal bi-wire jumpers from my Kan-II's a few days after I bought 'em.
Replaced it with a short piece of Naca5 (coste me some blood, sweat and tears to bend the stiff naca5 wink ,but...it's very worthwile.

The soundstage become more open, with greater detail, and well, it just sounds more alive and with ease then with the original biwire links.

So, for hardly any costs you get an effective and easy upgrade.

Alco,

Would you consider an alternative to NACA5 that is more pliable?

Hi Milan,

Well, just a few days ago I did try some other brands cable.

I used a short little piece of Van den Hul "The Clearwater",since I thought:"well, what difference can it make on a 2" long piece of wire"

well, enough,so it seemed!
With the Van den Hull it was as if the Kan's become slower and muddy in the bass. So,it does require a little more fiddeling but it will be worth it,believe me.

I do understand your question, cause I also hate the nac-a5 for it's stiffness. The last couple of weeks I became so irritated with it sometimes, that I even thought about going the 'round-earth' route and (yes!) sell the whole lot and by some good (looking) valve stuff and some nice Italian speakers,or someting like that.

Thank god,I came to my senses just in time big grin

See ya'

Try NACA4 if you can find. They are a lot more pliable. As soon i get it i'll try.

I generaly install 2 banana sets at the speaker end of NACA5. One is soldered at the end for highs and one at the exact distance between sets for lows without cutting the cable. That's the best sounding way i've found. Other ideas?

There was a discussion some time ago on the best way to wire bi-wire terminals whilst using one run of A5 to each speaker.

If you search through the site, there are pictures of the links described by Emmanuel.

If you can visualise a capital letter "F" where the upright is A5 and the two horizontals are the banana plugs.

The space between the two horizontals = the distance between your speaker terminals.

I don't know if the Kans allow this, but my NEARs did. One of the terminals broke, which is actually why I considered going to single wire; meanwhile a 'link wire' wouldn't work well, because of the broken terminal.

On these speakers, the terminals were on a board that was easy to detach from the speaker box. It was a cinch to connect the wires from the speakers to the terminals to the same set of terminals.

Much better sound. Don't biwire NACA5 connected to Naim electronics.
