CRT, Plasma or LCD???????

Help needed, basically the TV turned itself off the other day and will not turn back on, it is constantly on stand by. I have put it into the shop to see if it can be repaired and how much but where do i draw the line, the TV is 7 years old now 29" normal CRT with surround sound. This has posed the question as to whether i just buy a new one all together, i could get a nice 32" CRT widescreen for about £600 or i could go the slim route with a Plasma or LCD but i do not know the difference between the 2,

which is better??

Has anybody got either LCD or Plasma that can recommend a model and are there any pitfalls??

Cheers

Unless space is an issue the best picture I have seen comes from my Loewe crt. Plasma and LCD are coming along in leaps and bounds. Best picture of all comes from dedicated projector systems.

This is really a question for the home theatre forum - have you tried?

Thanks Mike, i thought there might be a few people that would reply but there you go. I have had lots of replies on Pink Fish.

This is simple.

Within the next year HIGH DEFINITION will be available via the satelite networks.

So any tv of any format must be selected with this in mind.

So as a temp go for a cheap and cheerful 32" CRT then next year give it to the kids when you upgrade to the latest generation of Plasma,LCD and the new one OLED see HIFI News Aug 2005 page 60 this is a new technology from Samsung. They already have a 40" prototype.

So i would wait till next year for Hi Definition to come to fruition.

Probably you might pay up to £105 for 'switch on relay' repair (usually guaranteed for 3/12). Possibly this will after about 6/12 show signs of failing again.

I prefer new big black-cabinet 4/3 CRT - an endangered species.

One or 2 black cabinet CRT 16:9 28 inch models available new about £18-£280.

Plenty of 'used' black-cabinet bargains available to last you for a little/long time.

Some people prefer massive size/price/silver frame of slim LC/LED.

For them, their choice is best.
