What is the bit rate and frequency of digital TV?

Hi,

I had to ask this question as I understand CDs are typically 16bit 44.1kHz.

What is digital TV sampled at? Is this also 16bit and 44.1kHz?

Im just curious as to whether an external DAC could improve TV audio sound somehow???

Virgin Cable sound pops out at 16bit / 48khz and sounds very respectable with my n-Vi doing the DAC bit (and even better with the Lavry)
