I'm worried my PC is going to crash and want to back up my messages on Outlook Express. Can I transfer the programme and messages to my external hard drive?

Ah - specialist CAD tools - didn't know about those. If you use Parallels and host the complete operating environment will these still not run: I've no idea. I've yet to find an application I need that won't run on a Mac, but there will always be some specialist tools that are written for a specific operating system.
BTW - Bill Gates' house was designed using a CAD package on a MacIntosh (I read on the Internet - so it must be true).
ATB - Rotf (currently using Amiga Voyager which is quite good, but still prefer Safari)

PC or Mac - the definitve debate
Cute.
I just got an Apple Powerbook G4 laptop (actually my wife's hand-me-down after she got a new one the other day), one of the last made before the Intel switch-over. After getting over the GUI differences, well, most of them anyway, the two seem about equivalent in day to day use. Moving my 10 year old Quicken files over to the Mac was a major hassle, taking about 6 hours over 3 days to correct the different registers and rebuild memorized transactions, and I have yet to re-do the mortgage amortizations. It also seems that Intuit treats Mac users like ugly step daughters. I am extremely disappointed that I cannot move the same Quicken file back and forth between Mac and PC; it looks like I am now committed to going forward with either one or the other, and having put in the time, I will probably stay with the Mac version.
Not enough time has yet passed to say whether I prefer the Mac. I do have to say that I have only experienced rare crashes with XP, which is much more stable than Win98. Macs are supposed to be under the virus writers' radar, though with proper precautions, I have never suffered from a PC virus. In my brief experience, the two platforms seem pretty equivalent.
