Double speak politicians...the Viz way

We all know that politicians are inclined to double speak. But how about double entendres?? This is a campaign sign I saw in Knoxville, Tennessee recently and is the real thing!!

Finbarr Saunders (for those not in the know) is one of the more amusing characters from the Viz magazine who constantly hears innuendos in innocent language- but somehow misses the real thing at the end.. it is true highschool humour and much baser than any creation in the Beano.

It is such an unusual name, I thought it was to be found only in the confines of the Viz magazine. I mean, what would you think if you saw a campain sign for Billy Bunter?

I realize that this forum is truly international and the anglo-humour reference may be lost to readers in Canada, or Idaho.

I suppose it is too rude to explain, but I have no idea what is funny about this!

Sometimes I do not see the obvious humour in a thing.

Do you have to read Viz to understand?

Sorry. George

PS Many years ago when Peter Temple Morris was the MP for North Hereford and Leominster, in one election there was a fairly snappy poster that announced in yellow on blue, "TM for MP."

Some wag painted Temple Meads for MP over it! Probably not as funny but at least I got it! For our American [continental] readers, who may not necessarily know, this is the main Bristol Railway Station, and thus possibly a link may be drawn with the gravy train etc.

My personal favourite double-entendre

Woman walked into a bar and asked for a double-entendre...

So the barman gave her one.
