AV Setup with non-Naim processor

Posted by: Swifty on 25 May 2003

Hi Guys,

After some very helpful feedback a while ago, I hope I have now resolved my mullet problem...I am now running CDX/CDPS, 102/HICAP/NAPSC, 135's into Shahinian Obelisks Big Grin

During the upgrades I have kept a few bits and pieces, Shahinian Compasses for the rears and a 180 to drive them. I would love an AV2 but with all the upgrades I just can't afford it the moment. Can I use a non-Naim processor ?

I think I am right in saying that Naim pre-amps perform some clipping so the 180 would expect a clipped signal, will I damage anything if I am not using a Naim pre-amp ?

Has anyone done this ? What cheap processors can be recommended i.e. eBay circa £ 150 that can be sold on when the AV2 budget is there. There are a couple of Yamaha processors designed for this I think, no idea what they are like. Once the AV2 is in place the centre/sub will be next...then maybe moving house miles away from any civilisation.

Many thanks,

Swifty.

I used a Yamaha e492 for a couple of years, and a Parasound for a year. When the AV2 came out I got that as thec system sang with the NAIM pre; but I didn't have any probs using the other two.

Power amps = 250 x 2, 140 for rears.
