Name that Frame

Posted by: Andrew Randle on 14 March 2001

OK Lads n' Lasses,

Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread going along these lines:

What kind of product name would you give to Naim's new stands?

The possibilities so far are:

1) Naim Edsel
2) Naim Time Frame
3) Naim Frame
4) NAS 1/2/3/4/5/
5) abx251.4W

Any more? After the suggestions, we'll probably conclude with a poll to see which one we like best.

Then Naim can marvel at our creativity and then dutifully ignore it ('cos they've come up with something already big grin ).

Because I believe Naim to be inherantly musical....

Encore

Ensemble

Forte

Grazioso

Maestro

Sonato

The above,as far as I can recall are mostly musical terms, but their meanings seem appropriate(yes I know that Sonata usually has an "a" on the end,and not an "o").

Chris

Hopefully winning the reward on his 100'th posting !

Tempo - has been used (Audio Physic)

I think the danger with using conventional words is that there is nothing stopping other manufacturers using them also - correct me if I'm wrong, but you can't trademark a single word in common use, like Tempo.

Better to go for something unique to avoid any registered or unregistered trademark infringement.

I like the following:

Naim Musico
Naim Arto
Naim Nimblo
Naim Atiro

(I'd also suggest Koto, but that's *my* trademark
razz for my consultancy...)

Others to think about:

Naim Spido (pronounced speedo)
Naim Tempero
Naim Artero (art-eh-ro)
Naim Nacho wink
Naim Desiro (des-ee-ro)

...and plenty more...

HTH,

John

Omer and James,

Just before going to bed I suddenly got some inspiration and two more names came up: "Rondo" and "NA CBL (Naim Audio Curved Box Loudspeaker)". I thought, should I get up and drop the names before somebody else does? Nah, who will think of them ... Well, I see the night brought inspiration! wink Bravo, you deserve to win!

Ciao!

Canto -> you'll have problems - this has been used by another manufacturer

Mojo I like, but it's also the name of a music magazine and there might be problems registering the trademark as both speakers and musical magazines might cross into 't others categories.

Some more...??? on the ...o theme:

Naim Ergo
Naim Supro
Naim Nakito
Naim Nikito

...and some others, off the wall:

Naim TBL (tiny box loudspeaker)
Naim Tabla (rhythmical, expansion on TBL)
Naim VBL (others mentioned this - re: JV)
Naim Skute (pronounced skoot)

I'm with Jez, I thought it had already been named the anarack as in A-NA-RACK (a naim audio rack).
This name was been used on the forum around the time of the Bristol show, I assumed it had already been Christened.

Some more latin words which might give the right impression, don't end in o though.

decorus : beautiful, graceful, charming, proper, fit, becoming

fidelis : faithful, loyal, true

verus : true, real, proper, right

How about Fabio or even Scorchio!! wink

I still like Naim Mojo - I doubt very much there's any trademark claim, as it is used everywhere (not just the magazine).

The Naim Di Canio will be capable of incredible moments of beauty but will more often than not wander off into the corner with your CD and refuse to give it back before falling over in a big heap and then executing a comedy limp.

It will also be unsable in France as it will cause French men to stand imobile with an arm raised at key moments.

>> Its time to make a stand for British industry. The Bowya.. <<

I see name the speaker after someone who's principle leagal defence appears to be claiming that he is "not very clever" ;-)

Matthew

Accendo (to illuminate)
Arcos (arch, bend or bow)
Arca (box)
Arceo (enclose)

(I didn't get past A on the Latin site I found)

Latin (or derived from Latin):

Circo, from circulus (circle)
Novus (new)
Passus (step)
Proxo, from proximus (next)
Prospect

Greek:

Kudos (acclaim, glory), or to avoid confusion with K-this and K-that from Scotland: Cudos
Misos (middle)
Dynamis (power)
Psyche, the beautiful girl with whom Eros (Cupid) was in love, personification of the soul

Out of these, I definitely like Psyche best. The previous suggestion, Ecco, I like too.

please send me a pair to live with for a time so that I may help match their personality with a proper naim.

Naim probably want a quick response wink

How about Dymo? Probably requires a trademark check too.

Andrew (...although I do like Mojo - those speakers certainly got that soulful something)

Centro run the trains in the West Midlands and are categorised by being:

Nigel,

I was thinking "Centro", but thoughts of the horrible centre-channel loudspeakers spring to mind.
