Name that Frame

Posted by: Andrew Randle on 14 March 2001

OK Lads n' Lasses,

Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread going along these lines:

What kind of product name would you give to Naim's new stands?

The possibilities so far are:

1) Naim Edsel
2) Naim Time Frame
3) Naim Frame
4) NAS 1/2/3/4/5/
5) abx251.4W

Any more? After the suggestions, we'll probably conclude with a poll to see which one we like best.

Then Naim can marvel at our creativity and then dutifully ignore it ('cos they've come up with something already big grin ).

It's over. I spoke to Paul on the phone and he has agreed to call it 'The Quigley' 'cos it stomps on the competition, and when Naim come up with another speaker that stomps the Quigley it will be called 'The McDonald'. wink

Just as we have the INIT's for the southern UK market, we musn't forget our northern brothers. I suggest Naim release the NAIM EBYX.

I'm off for a spot of snap.

NAT is already taken by the tuner line.

Doug, SENSIS? Sounds like a triple-action shaver to me big grin

Another suggestion is Kodo, after the Kodo Drummers of Japan (Market friendly too wink ).

The word Kodo, also means "heartbeat" in Japanese.

Here's a description of the Kodo Drummers:

"The Japanese characters for "Kodo" mean both "heartbeat" and "children of the drum," aptly describing this unique ensemble of musicians who have dedicated themselves to the art of drumming and the crossing of cultural boundaries. Based in a community on beautiful Sado Island in Japan, the group has performed throughout the world, thrilling audiences from Africa to Carnegie Hall with its powerfully rhythmic performances on drums ranging from snare-sized to as large as 800 pounds. In the words of the Chicago Tribune, "Superlatives don't exist to convey the primal power and bravura beauty of Kodo."

It has been stated elsewhere by someone at Naim that the new speaker is an evolution of the Credo that extends the design to it's logical final and highest level. I therefore submit 'Crescendo'.

Think about it.

Andrew,

I like "Kodo", but if you would call the "Vivo" "Kodo", how would you call the DBLs?

Ciao!

Willem

P.S. Some more: Naim Virgo, Naim Vertigo, Naim Retro.

Dave,
Are you suggesting that Mr Quadraspire himself, Larry at Audio Counsel, thought that the Naim rack was miles better???

Vim=energy

Call the Credo replacement "Virtuo". Doesn't that say it all?!
Rob Bowie (Wellington)

for the speaker name:

LOCAS (Lovechild Of Credo And SBL)

MIMI

Huevo(s) - coz they have an 'egg-topped' cabinet.

Fino - because it's a fine-looking, fine-sounding speaker.

The rack name? how about something simple - I like the NA Rack idea.

Sorry folks, SPIKA won't cut it - does nobody recall the venerable classic the Spica TC50? And these acronyms (ok, existing Naim products notwithstanding) start to sound a bit Linn-like, and we don't wnat that, right?

For existing proposals, I liked Mr Jong's suggestions, as well as Mojo (Andrew Randle?). Still, the net result of listening to blues on the new speaker would have to get your Mojo working, or it would be a misnomer, eh.

Oh, and of course that most eloquent suggestion by Vuk has a certain ring to it, don't you think? wink

Rico - all your base are belong to us.

PS - how about FBL - the Forum-named Boxed Loudspeaker.

I may be wrong, but FBL may have been the working-title of the DBLs - if you get my drift. big grin

No a pair of ....... but we have not found the name. I like Piggly Quiggly by Ron so far.
THe rack has gone back to Frame by popular demand from our distributors, but we will spell it FRAIM. I think Keith changed the spelling, we owe you Keith! c'mon down!! You could be the first forum member to get a piece!

Does this mean we have to use a Yorkshire influenced type name then?

For those of you who have never heard a Yorkshireman speak I suggest you go here to "Gen Up" as it were

Since Paul is not easily satisfied, here are some more names ending on -o:

Naim Ergo (meaning "straight (forward)" in Latin and "work" in Greek, like "work of art")
Naim Ono (A tribute to Yoko) wink
Naim GoGo

Ciao!

Willem

P.S. Since the top of the new speaker consists of the woofer, I suggest Naim BBL (Naim Bass Box Loudspeaker) or Naim WBL (Naim Woofer Box Loudspeaker) and if I win (Naim Willem's Box Loudspeaker) wink

It's not Hull at all it's Kingston.

I get some funny looks when people ask me where I'm from and I say a small village just outside Kingston in East Yorkshire and they go - "where"?

The Hull is a river.

The City is actually called - Kingston Upon Hull

I mean - do people from Newcastle say they're from Tyne?

Small world innit?

Oolah!

Heheh

The link was intended as a guide to our international brethren and not as a specific, definitive guide to Yorkshireism BTW

I would gladly divulge my whole life story and tell you all what a wonderfully rich and colourful musical upbringing I had in my home town but I really don't think this is the time or the place.

It started in Bolders record bar near the flyover on Hessle Road......

Have you got a spare couple of hours?
