Name that Frame

Posted by: Andrew Randle on 14 March 2001

OK Lads n' Lasses,

Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread going along these lines:

What kind of product name would you give to Naim's new stands?

The possibilities so far are:

1) Naim Edsel
2) Naim Time Frame
3) Naim Frame
4) NAS 1/2/3/4/5/
5) abx251.4W

Any more? After the suggestions, we'll probably conclude with a poll to see which one we like best.

Then Naim can marvel at our creativity and then dutifully ignore it ('cos they've come up with something already big grin ).

Excellent. Filey - good Fish and Chips country. Can't bare to eat the stuff they serve down here, south of London.

Jonathan,

Ever been to "Dicky B's"? It's next to the fire station. Best chip shop in Filey.

I've never had F&C's in London - the idea doeesn't appeal to me.

Andrew

P.S. regarding beer, it 'ad better be none of that Southern gravey!

I still have my Butlins badge from 1963 somewhere.

I also remember a rather painful experience of going to see Bob Marley at Leeds Uni back in 1976. I woke up on the beach at Filey the next afternoon with 3rd degree sunburn!!

It was a very hot summer!

Great gig that though.

Happy days indeed

Omer,

The name "Ritmo" reminds me of the Fiat Ritmo, but maybe that's just what Naim is looking for, because the name "Vivo" reminds me of a name Volkswagen would give to a new model: "Lupo", "Polo", "Bora" etc.

Hereby I suggest the Naim Uno, Naim Tipo, Naim Bravo and derived from the Naim Coupe, the Naim Cupido: Love at first sight! wink

Ciao!

Willem

P.S. As a tribute to Ferrari: The Naim Maranello in Ferrari red!

I spent two of the best years of my life with a lovely young lady from a village west of Huddersfield – does that buy me a pint? Whenever we came up from London to see her parents, she would take me up to this pub on a hill with a tremendous view of the valley. The local lads could never quite put their finger on my accent, which is vaguely Canadian, so they’d ask whether I was from the States, or Australia – when I said Germany they gave me this really, really strange look and I always feared I was about to be taken outside for taking the piss.

Back to the names: Do you remember that stupid Renault Megan ad with the funny pause? “The new Naim Ritmo – It plays … your music”.

If it's not too late (and I haven't seen anyone else propose it) how about "Nova"?

- was also the name of one of the most energetic and endearing cats I've ever owned, rather like Naim equipment! ;-)

Respectfully submitted

Some more suggestions

Ju Ju - A little bit of Voodoo?

Ve-Ve - a little more Voodoo with a touch of Verekers Value Engineering?

Or how bout

Vevevo - Verekers value engineering evolution? - with just a hint of Voodoo.

or even

Guruju - Similar drift but a bit too much like Iranoo or oovavoo maybe?

Funny how the mind wanders when you can't sleep yes?

Best

You think you're tho only person from Ull in the South of England and then half a dozen others appear out of the woodwork.

I remember Sheridans, now Norman's Place, down by the Sally Army Icehouse. An excellent 2nd hand vinyl emporium. (Norman's not the Sally Army.) Also some great, flat, East Yorkshire put downs from school: "our budgie could do better than that, and out budgie's dead!",
"if brains were made of dynamite, he wouldn't have enough to light a match!" etc.

The fish and chips in Hornsea at the shop/restaurant just down past the cottage hospital are excellent. John Sullivan's I think.

Sadly, everytime I visit my mother and see the city again it seems more depressed and run down.

Wasn't the shop called "Floggit's". "Sellit and Soon" I remember along with "Poole's Corner" on Newland Ave.

Remember that in Hull a pearl is someome from Poland. As in "he's a pearl."

Mark

Floggit's". "Sellit and Soon I just wanted to authenticate the lads, It is indeed "Sell and Soon", know only locally as "Floggit and Quick"
Depressed, I don't know about that, I read somewhere about 'ull being the 5th richest city in the UK at the mo', Kinsgton Comunnic etc, though everyone is holding on too crummy priced shares now.
I think we should move this 'ULL topic to the Padded Cell, it could run and run.

Correction, I just saw in the dictionary that it should be:

The Naim Cyclops

Explanation: the woofer seen as one big eye and the beginning of the word "cycl..." refers to the rounded top of the box.

I suggested the "Naim Nemo" earlier, but you can write it as well: "Naim Naimo".

Maybe the weekend brings more inspiration!

Andrew,

I'm afraid I proposed "Virgo" already some days ago.

Here are two new ones:

The Naim Cresco (Cresco means "I grow", so the the Credo has grewn up!)
The Naim Audeo (Audeo means "I dare")

Ciao!

Seems like we're all going around in circles looking to hit the bullseye. NoGo!

By now, Naim must have enough names to plant on 20 future products!

How about VOLCANO.

Yes, Yes! That's it!!! Come on.... pleeEEAAase....

Really good Naim Audio speakers get a proper three-letter moniker.

Anything less is simply a marketing-driven aberation, which with time and hindsight is shown up (Granada? Montego?... Allegro?...I mean really...) as bollocks.

The new speaker is darned good (heard it at Bristol). To my ears, it's further towards the IBL / DBL camp than the Credo (pardon?) / NBL approach. Only negatives are that curved top which IMHO detracts from the glorious "Naim Audio Brutalist" look, as does the less than obvious metalwork in the stand, which personally I think should be more exposed, like in the IBL. Still, when it sounds like it does, who gives one! smile

It's an HBL, (Hybrid Box) as has been already suggested. It just fits. That's it.

Best;

Mark
