Name that Frame

Posted by: Andrew Randle on 14 March 2001

OK Lads n' Lasses,

Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread going along these lines:

What kind of product name would you give to Naim's new stands?

The possibilities so far are:

1) Naim Edsel
2) Naim Time Frame
3) Naim Frame
4) NAS 1/2/3/4/5/
5) abx251.4W

Any more? After the suggestions, we'll probably conclude with a poll to see which one we like best.

Then Naim can marvel at our creativity and then dutifully ignore it ('cos they've come up with something already big grin ).

Andrew

Paul,

My suggestions for the speaker name either;

VIDA = Life

or

VERAZ = truthful

Ken

Calling hi-fi after italian(or other language) music related words is so 70's and boring don't you think?

How about we think of something modern and/or radical?
I do like the idea of sticking with the 3 letter acronyms though - but the only one I can think of that that meets both criteria is the 'JEZ' - fast and dangerous!

Until then, the working title has to be the 'NO NAIM' wink

A lot of the suggestions are either old Kef speaker names or 70s British cars. And the Alto - don't you remember the Dean Alto (bookshelf speaker circa 1985). Oops - how about CIRCA?

Anyway, I'm calling mine PONGO - after the little dragon in "Tales from Rubovia". Always followed its master & mistress.

Canto was good, but again I think there's been a speaker with that name.

How about NARK 1/2/3 for the racks?

Perhaps not this product, but for your next flagship product, shouldn't you call it the 'Julian' or the 'Vereker'?
Sorry if anyone has suggested this earlier but I can't be arsed checking through all of the posts, there are far too many!

You must be pleased with the response though, maybe you should offer a prize for naiming every new product.

Naim Accessory Is Very Expensive

Phenomenal. On the other side: can you tell me the newcomer an approx. price for the Frame?
Thanks

Hi Graphoman,

You'll appreciate Nigel's suggestion even more if you hear the prices! The prices mentioned on the forum were: 500 GBP for the Base unit and 300 GBP per shelf! The way I see it, these prices will guarantee that the Naim stands will be sold in very small numbers and only to people who have reached already the top of the Naim range, others will probably prefer a cheaper stand and a component upgrade. I mentioned the price to a fellow Naimophile and he asked me "Are these stands made of gold"?

Ciao!

Hi all:

Regarding a name for the new speaker, how about the 'Toulouse' as it reminds me vaguely of that little French dude with his hat on.

Best Regards,
Mark Dunn
(who still thinks that his original suggestion of CREscenDO is the best ;-)Ç

How about EBL? Where the 'E' could stand for either 'easy' or 'enhanced'. I think it makes more sense to stick with the xBL family name since it bears an exterior resemblance to the NBL while still retaining the technical qualities of the SBL.

TDB

Scene: In a Naim dealer's somewhere in Yorkshire

Customer: I'm interested in new speakers

Dealer: Well sir, you'll love these, they are The Dog's Bollocks

Posted on: 28 March 2001 by Matthew T
Jez,

TDB wont work

DBL - Dogs Bollocks loudspeaker
NBL - Nice Bloody Loudspeaker

BBL - Bloody Beautiful Loudspeaker

Not sure what SBL stands for but any suggestions welcome.

cheers

Matthew

The Naim...

amigo - it's a friendly 'speaker

lasso - once you listen you'll be snared

nitro - more subtle than a turbo

tango - dance anybody? (or you know when you've been tango'd)

wahoo / yahoo - your reaction upon first listening

placebo - we know it's only a substitute for the real thing

fellatio - it'll blow your mind (sorry !)

Andy.
