prefix modification

Has anybody done that modification? How is it soundwise and how much do they charge for?
I understand that it will prevent RFI. So is it worth the money?
Cheers,
Hermann

Thanks Ross
My system didnt suffer from RFI anymore. Interestingly you paid 40GBP. That makes me thinking because my dealer told me that they will charge about 330euro which is about 230GBP.
Any other comments about improving the sound?

The price in Germany is 298 Euro. This is w/o switch to black snaic.
Seems is not worth the upgrade.

Funny that an austrian guy offers a Fraim (3 month old) to someone at the other forum. He reduces the price by 25% and the guy replayed thats the same as new in UK !
German (same distributor to Austria) prices are very high compared to UK and USA.
Hope my dealer can do it into the back room for much less.

Patrick
did it and lost.
They ask me to do it in Germany. Sorry Naim not for that price. The difference between about 60GBP (~ 85 EUR) and 298 EUR is quite to much.
Does anybody know what they excatly modify?

At a guess, I'd think there is more to it than this.
You have the labour at the goods in phase to pay for (Naim run a busy service department), the technician's labour, the physical modification involving stripping a prefix, rewiring the relevant bits, changing components (mod and servicing-related), inspecting, performance testing, soak testing, listening test, repackage, label, arranging payment and then shipping, which sounds to me like a bit more (in total) than an hour and a half of someones time. Someone has to pay the overheads...

You are correct Andrew all this has to be done.
A craftsman charges about 50 euro per hour in Germany. Given he need 1.5 hour, that means 75 euro plus shipping. So lets give them some goody and say 100 euro. But they charges 3 times of that calculation. I still guess thats to much.

Dear Hermann!
Let´s bring clarity to the discussion here.
It´s true that the price for upgrading Pre-Fix
to the newest version is € 298,- in Germany. Price is including fix in all spareparts (and
rebuilding for example S to E). The fix in/out of the Pre-Fix and adjust of the turntable (made by your dealer) comes also with this.Including all transport cost.

Patrick,
I don't want to add a niggling doubt to you, but the Lingo's power cord from the board is too close to the Prefix's SNAIC. This will degrade performance to an extent. You shoudl try and dress the cable so you have more distance - maybe pull the Lingo cable so it has less of a U bend. I am sure it will help performance (well actually dunping the Lingo is the best solution
