If there are, run, don't walk, or better still take a van and buy them now. I'm convinced SBLs and NATs are going to appreciate soon.
I'm still kicking myself for just missing the last NAT01.

Hi,
Just got off the phone to Naim, Thanks to Richard at Naim for making the situation known concerning the above.
There are apparently a hand-full of black-ash veneer SBL's left at the factory. If you want a pair I'm told that you have to go through a Naim dealer, not direct through the factory ...oh well thats a shame...but I suppose the dealers have got to take a cut or there out of business!
Maybe I'll try to bend a few dealers arms!!

Hi Matt,
following your call to the factory today I can also confirm that there's also a handful of Walnut pairs available. Get down to your nearest Naim dealer before they're all gone....

tempted, but I've been badly burned on e-bay in the past, so I won't use it again for something I can't collect in person.

Hi Bosh,
There may be a way of getting a maple pair of the said Sbl's..... Simply take a pair of your regular black ash ones & get them re-veneered in ones prefered wood finish!!!.....Easy huh?
Well... maybe not ...as I'm not sure if this is poss.. but a good friend of mine happens to own & sucessfully run a wood joinery!!!!!
I'll keep you posted on that one & let you know what this might cost!
I'm thinking of doing the very same ...but maybe in birch or white beech.

don't forget that the orientation of the grain has a significant influence on the sound

SBL Finishes
I know to a large extent it boils down to personal choice, though cost may have a lot to do with it, but what is the most desired finish for the SBL's?

A woman who likes hi-fi is one thing, but a woman who likes black hi-fi is almost unheard of.
Next thing you'll be buying Mana stands!

Tip 2: Rather than buying ready-made, use a potato peeler for making parmesan shavings

After 9 years, her indoors has said she doesn't like the black SBLs! Apparently it spoils the decor of the room and doesn't match the other wood in the room.
She watches a lot of those Changing Rooms programs and by all accounts light wood in vogue.
Better still, she offered to decorate the boxes with a stencil kit!!! ...Nice shade of Crown oriental ginger mixed with California rays and winter jasmine...

Word is that Naim have commisioned LL Bowen to come up with some goth finishes for the SL2s

Gizmo displays excellent taste and sophistication in her preferences - Sydneysiders are well known for their decorating prowess. We're just all waiting for the Naim BBQ, to compliment urban settings.
And besides, everyone knows the black SBL's sound best.
My wife also prefers (nay, demands) black loudspeakers. So natrually, there are black SBLs adorning our living/listening space.
You would all do very well to be getting the last of what will surely be known as a classic loudspeaker for not very much money. although not particularly rounded, they really are a close relative of the canus bollockus family.
It is likely you will all learn the error of your ways wrt home decorating when beech and cherry fall from grace next year ("oh, that looks So-ooo 90's") - and then everyone will look for understated elegance in thier furniture. This is no time to mention Mana of course - but fashion victims will also note the FRAIM is available in BLACK already.
The writing's on the wall, ya'll - ya just gotta read it.

Naive new boy question - credit card flexing as we speak - what is consensus as to price?

Mike the list price is around 2400.
However I hear that in order to shift um dealers are selling at around the 1800 mark new.
Relatively speaking therefore a bit of a bargin, supposing you had saved the 2400.
I would hang back though because the SL2 is bound to create a number of redundant SBLs for the second hand market

Not so fast, mate - great as the SL2s are, I'm fairly confident that those with SBL's will likely consider newer electronics further up the chain in order to improve the music quality in their rooms. The jury's still out as to rianing 52's or raining SBL's will be next season's tune.
Black, as always, will be next season's black.

I'm with you on that one. Good as they are, I wouldn't consider them as a £2500 upgrade over SBLs, NBLs would be a more logical upgrade.
That aside, there's plenty of used SBLs around for 'bargain' prices.
