New Superbrain Computer

Posted by: Diode100 on 22 February 2007

I see on the BBC website that a new Superbrain compute, called Hector,is going to be built in Edinburgh. Funded by some UK Quango, no doubt drawing on monies extorted from the noble workers of the South East. When I mentioned this to a Welsh guy at work, and asked why it wasn't going to Cardiff, he said it was probably because they had a ready supply of unused brain parts in the Scottish regions that could be incorporated into the design.

Diode. Is this some weird, obscure attempt at a racist comment ?

'The super computer, which has a memory of 35,000 GB and disk storage of 700,000 GB, will enable British scientists to carry out highly complex and varied research.'

Now if you could just get Apple to slim down the size and include an onboard DAC, and a belt clip.

I have had some involvement with the HECToR procurement. Luckily I will be paid some commission from the deal Smile

Some people are unhappy with the decision to install the system in Scotland rather than an English/Welsh university. Politics and funding sources....

The previous systems were housed in or around Manchester.

If nothing else I'm gonna have a bleedin' long journey to get up there in the summer.

Graham.
