Cheapest place for NacA5?

Posted by: Topof on 19 August 2003

Hi folks,
It looks as though I'm going to have to get some NacA5 speaker cable (white) for my setup.
The only place that sells it near me is Audio-T and it's £7.50 per metre. Is this the standard price or does anyone know where I could get it any cheaper?

Thanks

Dave

Sorry guys;

If you buy second hand, it will sound second hand. This is what my ears tell me.

I have posted on this under "No brainer upgrade for NACA 5". The upgrade is,......new NACA 5

Not worth skimping on, trust me. Buy new.

Someone I lknow replaced his 4 year old NACA5 with new stuff and couldn't believe the difference the new stuff made for the better.
I'm with Mike.
Skip a couple of pints, the stuff's worth it!!!

Mike,

I read your "no brainer" thread with interest. I wonder if most of the effect could also have been achieved by, say, cutting off 4" on either side of the cable and fitting new plugs.

Corrosion seems to occur mostly at the exposed cable ends. Cut off the end, and the cable should be fine again.

Any opinion?

If memory serves me correctly, a few months ago I visited naim and it was suggested to cut speaker cable ends, and re terminate occasionally for this reason exactly. To verify this phone them and ask.

Markus

This may be a reason / the reason for an improved sound.

It may be the case that over time, the plastic wrapper will leach gas into the cabling and affect its properties. Plastics do age.

Open to opinions, just hope you are wrong as I have spent £140!.

Well I also wanted 7 metre runs

Hell, I'm no scientist, but I heard what I heard.
I thought the new stuff sounded much fresher and cleaner, but a bit 'green'. That always rubs off as the cable burns in (you read that right).

Richard Bews from LFD (a very respected Dr of physics and a noted cable designer)has been known to comment along the same lines, but he thought around every two years for replacement.
