Used iPod prices?

Chap at work is selling a 4th gen 20gb iPod for £145.

Comes with a carry case, remote headphones, mains, dock with USB2 and firewire cables etc..

I think from the Apple store, new, we're talking about £240 or so.

Condition is good, I've borrowed it to try overnight but right now I'm tempted.

Any thoughts? Buying a new one is more about justifying it than the money if you get me, if it may not get as much use as I'd planned etc.

cheers,
Paul

Is this the model with battery issues ?

20GB Ipod is now £209 new, the 6GB mini ipod £169 and the 4GB mini ipod reduced to £139 so you may want to consider this if making an offer.

Otherwise go for it - just be sure to check how long the battery lasts and how well it holds a charge, though I think the newer ones have had fewer problems you're not going to know until it's 12-18mths old if my 1st gen ipod is anything to go by. That said, you can buy DIY battery replacement kits if the worst comes to the worst.

I think I shall have it, looks like it's a 3rd gen one not 4th but I want it to be able to listen to stuff at work without having to carry CDs and DVDs full of MP3s etc not for hours of "music on the move".

Put it this way, I'm a techie, I "do" servers and networks for a living and at home I don't want that I just want to use the computer if you know what I mean.. hence the Mac.

I got home, I connected the dock via Firewire, I put the iPod in the dock, pissed off for ten minutes, came back and that's it.. 10gb of tunes copied over job done, I'm not one of these "apple can do no wrong" types but that's how it should be done Smile

I doubt you'll regret it.
I'm a die-hard analog fan but enjoy the hell out of my iPod in the car, on airplane, etc.
The battery life is not that great, but it suits me for a "there and back" airplane ride on business. I don't take the charger with me unless I'm gone over 2-3 days.
20GB is the way to go. 40 is too much, 6 would be too little, at least for me. YMMV.
