Linn Troika on Ebay

There's a troika on Ebay at the moment

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3283&item=3002239137&rd=1

The seller claims that it is brand new and still available. Surely Linn replaced it years ago. Any thoughts. Confused

Brand new?

If it is either retipped or rebuilt, then neither could be described as brand new. Re-tipping shears off the end of the cantilever and the rebuilt by linn (actually goldring) troika is good but is still a rebuilt cartridge.

Or if never taken out of the box it is over 8 years old and should be described as unused not brand new. My understanding is that even a boxed cartridge will degrade with time. The material properties of the rubber parts change over time which will have a knock on effect on suspension and performance.

I'm not saying it is a bad un (I use a troika myself), it's just that it is untrue to describe this cartridge as brand new whatever the circumstances.

Never buy a cartridge off someone who doesn't know what there talking about.A second hand Cartridge isn't worth much anyway no matter what it cost new.

I also use a Troika, I paid EUR 100 for it because it had a broken cantilever. I had it rebuilt by Expert Stylus and I am very satisfied, it's an excellent cart.

I recently purchased a used Koetsu Onyx, rebuilt by Van den Hul. It seems to be in need of a service, and until now I still use my Troika. I wonder if it is worth to have the Onyx rebuilt to original spec by Koetsu...? Any advice appreciated!

What makes this scarey is that someone is bidding Three hundred and fifty quid for a second hand cartridge, what are these people on?

100 quid more and you have a DV 17D2, brand new, garentees etc.

I simply could never trust a second hand cart.
