Fathers Day

Ah, it's "Fathers Day" - that invention of the card industry. As usual I will be receiving no cards, as my daughters are under strict instructions to ignore this nonsense.
Bah humbug ...

Just like cards for Birthdays, Christmas & Easter? Or are they OK?
Best ones though are Grandfathers/Grandmothers day, I would have thought that was already covered.

All greetings cards are relatively recent inventions. IIRC Christmas cards got started in the Victoria era. I can live with those for Christmas, and birthdays, although I no longer send Christmas cards, but just donate the equivalent amount to charity.
Mothering Sunday is a traditional festival, so again perhaps can be justified. Every year I tell SWMBO that she isn't MY mother, but still finish up taking her out for a mean.
Fathers day etc are just recent commercial fabrications.

I spend time with my folks, lots of time since they're soon to to be 89. Talk about the past, go to dinners with jacket and nice clothes at their retirement home with their friends, enliven the conversation from "who is having problems" to "I remember when". Mom is always amazed I can liven up the locals and talk about different things.
