He played in the first professional game I ever went to - Chelsea vs Man. U in 1968. Chelsea had some charcters then - Osgood, Hudson, Charlie Cooke, Peter Bonetti. Man U were reigning European Champions and had a forward line including Law, Best and Charlton. Chelsea won 3-2.
Osgood was an elegant, effortless player, not quick but he seemed to have all the time in the world. 59 is no age.
He will be missed.

More sad news - a great player and a really nice guy by all accounts.

I can pay my respects at "The Bridge" on Friday. My good lady has bought for my birthday a, night stop at the Chelsea Hotel with stadium tour.

I liked Osgood immensely and remember him starting at Chelsea/even liked him re-winning Cup at Southampton. He was often a great player and should have had many many more England caps. Amazing how often he appeared in lots of recent Chelsea FC programmes too. Thank goodness I re-bought 1970 B side song to him a couple of years ago.
Condolences to his family/acquaintances.
